What should the next pay deal be.

This is my idea to kick the debate off.
Year 1, 3.5% pay rise.
Year 2, 1 hour reduction in working week.
Year 3, 1 hour reduction in working week (with paid break reduced to 30 min from 40 min a day).

that is the equivalent of a pay rise of 8.6% pay rise over three years(less working time but same wage is an equivalent of a pay rise), given that inflation is currently very close or even below zero, public sector wages are being capped at 1% for next few years, I dont think a now private company is going to be offering anything of the sort, i personally think the union will be able to struggle to get anything over a 5% rise over 3 years

Don't think it works out at 8.6% as year 3 is nearly wholly covered by the reduction in paid break which is self funding..
Don't think it's too ambitious what I am suggesting quite reasonable in my opinion given the forecasted rise for the economy

profits are down, expect a "less than expected" xmas turn-over due to competition, money paid for redundancies then agency staff and add training

new staff.

no pay rise will get agreed/recommended by the cwu to protect jobs due to the current climate

we have had staff starting 3 to 4 hours early EVERY single day this year despite all the cuts, some managers doing more postal grade work than me most weeks.
the job is fecked.

Paided break reduced to 30 minutes? No chance! if they want 6 hour walks more like going up to an hour on health and safety grounds. Unless it's going to be a 4 day week

I think it will be no pay rise plus they will buy your breaks off you and increase your walking time by 50%. And be thankful you've got a job.
