Sick query

Post by Lou84 »

Hi,

I've been off sick with a bug Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of this week, tomorrow is my rest day so have said I'll be back at work on Friday.
I am right in thinking this makes it 3 days sick, or will they try and make it 4 ?

Thanks

If you have told them before your rest day that you will be back on friday the it's 3 days

if you don't tell them till on or after the rest day then it would be 4

I've told them twice I'd be back on Friday as tomorrow is my rest day but you know what managers are like, I could be in for an argument !!!

Just to clarify as my previous post may not have been written quite right, you need to make sure he knows you are fit to work for your rest day (even though not working it) just saying you will be fit for Friday doesn't cover the rest day so make sure they know you are fit to attend tomorrow even though you are not working it

How does this translate to part-time workers who might only work 1 day a week.

Or somebody who is approaching their long weekend, or wallington week and takes the day before off and is back the next rota'd day can not be lumped with a 4 or 5 day absence for 1 day off.

exact same applies as other wise if you think about if the triggers are number of days off a part timers on 2 days per week would be able to take 1 absence of 5 weeks and only accrue 10 days and not trigger a stage warning but 5 weeks for a ft would be 25 working days and trigger a warning after 2 weeks off, so days off count as otherwise it's unfairly balanced, basically it's 14 days for a trigger which equates to two weeks off regardless of hours or days worked

It's not fair though is it, the FT is being paid for those days off, how can the PT be held to the same standards?

A fairer system would be at the start of each 7 day period since the absence begun a new absence has to be recorded, that way the PT would get a max of 4 weeks off before triggering a stage.

no one is paid on their days off, if you mean by the days the ft is working and getting paid compared to the days the pt is not, its still the exact same, both get the equivalent of 2 working weeks off before triggering a stage warning review, why should a pt get 4 weeks off before triggering a review and a ft only getting 2 weeks, thats not fair
