Such an open ended question and so many possible answers. Pub - defo No - Drs, Pharmacy - legitimate reason.


But Sick pay policy conditions state:

An absent employee shall remain at their normal home address (other than to
receive in-patient treatment) unless they have consent of their line or local
personnel manager

Sorry it shouldn't have done but your post made me laugh, if you mean walking around outside your house then of coarse you can, you could be going to the doctors/chemist all sorts of places, a hospital appointment, just because your off sick doesn't mean you have to stay at home, but it all depends what you're off sick for.Wouldn't look too good if you're seen playing Rugby or doing anything physical really while signed off but just use common sense

Depends on the circumstances but a one off emergency when you have flu should be okay. Doing it everyday when you have a sprained ankle - no. As I say it depends on the circumstances and to some degree the reasons for the absence and the journey.

Depends on the nature of the sick leave?

Common sense applies, after all you won't be under lock and key, and i doubt the DOM would want to be phoned up for permission every time you need to visit your gp / pharmacy etc.

If you're off for depression or something along them lines the doctor will tell you to leave your home and be active so not sure what Royal Mail will say about this

There was a case a few years ago, albeit not a Royal Mail employee, of someone who was off sick due to stress who went on holiday to Australia. Whilst there they saved someone's life who got into difficulties whilst swimming in the ocean. This made the local papers over there, and then it made their local paper back here in the UK ... Which meant their employer found out about it, and they where "unthrilled"!

However if you're booked off sick for the next 6 weeks (or whatever) and you can afford a short notice vacation in Australia then you could argue it might help you unwind and become less stressed?

Nothing they can do about it ,the doctors told you to get out ,you are only doing what you have been told,chances are that it,s them that caused the depression anyway

I saw the manager who gave me a stage one warning, out and about on a Saturday night. He was off sick at the time!
What annoys me the most is he always gives out warnings regardless of the circumstances. He's so far up his own backside he doesn't see his double standards.

RM all absences are assumed to be genuine wonder when this policy was changed get him to put it in writing and sue the bastard.
