So how does someone get nominated for the pec?

Got a question for a CWU Rep? And all CWU related matters.

So how does someone get on the pec?

Is it branch nominations?

I would like to see a totally democratic system where the average cwu member could run for the pec.

Seek your Branch nomination.

If you get it, then you're in the hat with all the other candidates. The final 15 are elected by the postal membership of the Union.

Easy in principle.

Any member can stand for the PEC. All you have to do is get nominated and seconded to put your name forward at your Branch AGM. Nominations are usually made in December, and Branch AGMs held in January. At the AGM the proposer and seconder state why they think you would make a good candidate and a vote is taken. If it is carried you go forward as a Branch nomination to the PEC elections which take place in March or April. You can submit an election address, and a pamphlet containing all the candidates' election addresses are sent to every member with their ballot paper.
So it is in essence totally democratic. But usually most members do not know the candidates, so only about 20-25% vote and those that do vote according to who their Branch recommends, so it is usually the activists who are known to other activists who get elected. And there is usually an element of regional voting - voting for someone who comes from the same region as you.

I would say it is very difficult to get on the PEC we had a guy who was excellent at his job as area rep and he tried a couple of times but there seems to be some sort fiddles or conspiracy's in certain areas of voting accross the country, how he never got in i'll never know

Or more like, it was a big fiddle just like the way forward :mad

everyone i know voted NO yet it came in, and my local rep was heard thanked by the area cwu rep :sad:

All cwu reps are on the same side of the managers !!!

they stand outside smoking with them laughin jokin with them YOU GUYS KNOW THE REST !!!
