... although where we are it's started already ... reckon this year could be the sh*te of all sh*te - although I'm sure RM has put contingency plans into effect (loads more sorting staff etc).
Which takes us back to the foot soldiers - when I was a mere schooboy back in the mid 70s I copped a job with the GPO (with free bicycle) - don't see many extra delivery staff these days ... who's dreading Christmas out in the frontline ... me for one.

Start at my start time , take my break and finish at my finish time , manager can manage the rest that's what he's paid for so no not really.

Agree with noggin......It's Should be business as usual. They've already been round asking whose working their day off! Or willing to come in early for extra IPS. We're already a couple of staff down so normally we would have "Special Duties", helping out other Posties or solely delivering extra parcels. This year it won't happen.

If things are going to get too heavy just tell them you're finishing on time and let the manager sort it out. Ironically the "Mafia" in our office quite look forward to Christmas. They stand to make anything up to £1500 in tips on "THEIR" duty. Most of them have had an easy year so far because their duties are easy (to be fair they might just be correct, but everyone else's are far too big). So for 3 or 4 weeks at Christmas they don't mind working a bit harder "For THEIR Customers"!

The rest of the Office however have been working harder for the other 48 weeks of the year, and I believe don't feel inclined to work just that little bit harder! With a general lack of Goodwill within the office Christmas should be interesting.

I tend to get on with my job and observe Hermes taking more than usual, Yodel , Next , DPD, and UPS to name but a few and think ... that's a weight off my round ..cheers guys and ladies
We are now the proud carriers of the Chinese crap , SHOES , and the awful scanners covering many different products that we know about and the customers couldn't give a fig about! (tracked/special/signed for/ safeplace/9am/1pm etc.)

We need BIGGER vans as we can't get all the parcels in.

Xmas pressure unofficially started in MCs at the beginning of last week, fairly massive surge in everything but with normal staffing levels with maybe a couple of extra casuals

Less walking distance to do over and lead up to Christmas. No lapsing and loops taken off on busy days. Don't feel guilty, it's the managers job to cover staffing levels if people don't want to be out till dark. Work to live, not the other way round. As far as the business goes it's encouraging to see we are busy. Busy = profits (if it's managed well) which means nice share divis and job security.

was asked last week if i wanted unlimited overtime again which i did loads from last october to this march,
i said if i'm that needed that much i'd have been made full time after all the jobs cuts/sackings/resignations this year,
he soon skulked off
let those who have been coming in at 4am all year and the managers who are out delivering until 6pm carry on their fine work over the rush period.
