Uncommunicative DOM

The old DOM was fine, used to wander around the floor chatting to everyone, even had occasional office briefings to let people know what was going down and would answer any questions you had. The new one however only speaks to the staff through union rep or managers, occasionally comes down off their perch and just stands around, arms folded, scowling.
Now I know we all have a job to do and I'm not saying theirs is an easy one but why not make it easier for yourself by lightening up a bit, be nice, communicate with your workforce and who knows maybe then they will be more willing to help you out especially as it's coming up to that time of year when you need all the help you can get.

All the years I've been with RM only one DOM has even bothered to talk to me. Yes, I took the mick out of his embarrassing behaviour but it was preferable to all the other DOMs who couldn't even be bothered.

most of our management or whatever their titles are getting paid a hell of a lot more than us for doing the same job.

of interest what do you understand summer staffing to be for and why do you think your dom thinks it's built into your duty?

1 reason was to free up the chance of more annual leave in the summer and getting us to work a close to time as possible, which i guess is fair
but with the amount of people who have left, now its just because there's nobody to do that lapsed duty and if you now say you'll struggle to take it, its a "why not"
this duty doesn't have anyone on it and it's a daily "see how busy it is 1st" then a manager takes whatever there is out if nobody wants overtime

thats what I thought you would say, the first bit is correct, that is 2hat summer staffing is for. summer staffing is not to cover absence or vacancy in anyway shape or form.

Cant be easy being a DOM these days. They do get paid handsomely but there are many responsibilities and targets for them to achieve. I have heard about "Dream big and dare to fail" but in our office its more "Bl**dy hell we're all buggered now!"



The walls are wallpapered in health and safety notices. It means that our office takes health and safety seriously. There are maybe one or two 'incidents' but nothing serious. Tick box.

No Xmas casuals will be recruited in our office and staff being 'intimidated' to work past their time due to the lapsing. Why? Office budget. Tick box. Health and wellbeing of staff? Why does simply working to time and leaving some mail/packets behind cause chaos, panic and disorder in some managers?? Is it time for your medication or mine? Tick box

1st and 2nd class quality performance targets have improved even though we on deliveries are now doing collections from pillboxes. How? Is a 1st class stamp really worth more than 2nd class? Tick box.

Customer complaints, why are the callers office routinely 'losing' parcels and blaming posties when it has been sat in their office under their very nose??? Computer says No. Tick box.
