it seems to me that the cause of 90% of time issues are parcels, would it not make more sense if royal mail dealt only in mail and parcel force in all the parcels?

It would make things so much quicker. not having to sort parcels in the morning, having more space in the van, saving hours not delivering parcels or writing p739s, trying neighbours etc.
the man hours needed would go down, which in turn would mean parcel force would need more hours, and could take up the staff that royal mail no longer needs.

it just seems to me that royal mails focus on mail and parcels is not efficient and splitting the two would make more sense.

it would make alot more sense, im sure most people would rather take say another loop of mail in return for no parcels.

I think its too late for that though in terms of staffing, this should of been done before parcels really took off.

We are taking more and more parcels and now even bigger ones, it's only a matter of time before they start phasing parcel force out.

If we only delivered letters then our indoor and outdoor time would be severely reduced - meaning either much longer deliveries or a 100% part time workforce.
Parcelforce might take up some of those job losses which would be fine for those that drive and want to be owner/drivers.
For the rest - part time or P45?

Why don't RM employ a separate more flexible workforce to deliver the D2D?
No one likes doing them and some weeks you get 6 and some weeks none, so having a separate workforce on zero hour contracts/minimum wage to deal with the fluctuations would make more sense.

We already do, they're called agency, but they also take mail too! Apart from sd that is, can't be trusted with them although everything else is fine lol.

I do a rural and many times I'm at a farm when parcel force turn up this is a waste of time and fuel,many times it's just a dvd or small packet.

Because if you have all our parcels to parcel force they wouldn't be able to cope with the massive amount of traffic, and postman would go home early, hours to be saved resulting in job losses.
If you have a problem with the increase revenue Royal Mail is getting from parcels feel free to cut off at the end of your duty time if you feel you're going over.

Maybe instead of cutting deliveries or sending work off to others we could get rid of van share, I know I can take my duty easily in my van but I struggle to fit in both.
And I know that an individual duty is faster than a van share.

Those large boxes with preinflated helium party balloons certainly take a fair bit of space in the back of a bipper!

At my depot each driver covers three post code areas eg, xx1 1, xx1 2,xx1 3. That is a large area, With all the parcels you want shifted over. it just can't be done.
