Can Royal Mail refuse to let me come back to work?
I broke my leg in May of this year and due to complications I am still heavily reliant on a wheel chair. RM have sent me a letter to inform me that sick pay ends on Dec 4th. I have asked my union rep to speak to my manager to make arrangements for me to return to work. I have started physio to begin walking (1 session so far). I still have months of recovery ahead.

Re: Returning to work
Management have just phoned me to come in for a meeting today at my convenience. Guess I'm about to find out.

Re: Returning to work
Just because willing to work but unable to complete full duties, royal mail do not need to let you come back on light duties, if no light duties availible they can insist you stay on sick leave until fit to resume normal duties and stop paying sick pay when the 6 months runs out.
Just because your willing doesn't mean they have to. (situation is different if covered by equalities act which your broken leg sounds like it wont)

zx135 spot on. They can't have me back. Atos will be phoning me. Gutted as I broke my leg on duty and basically feel like I have had a kick in the teeth. So I guess no pay, no life. How to kick a person when their down.

Re: Returning to work
Because you broke your leg whilst on duty you should be entitled to 12 months full sick pay, I know because I was off for this amount of time after having an injury whilst on duty. Get your Rep to chase this up for you.
Or somebody may have a link to the sick pay terms and conditions.

Yeah I don't agree with it but that's the way it is sometimes,
if you broke your leg on duty that could change things, get onto your area rep about this as depending on what caused the accident RM may need to keep paying sick leave or you probably have a chance of a personal injury claim against the householder or land owner, it's not just a case of sit back and accept no pay it about finding out who is responsible for continuing to pay you
