If you are not happy with it happening then get your rep to put in a disagreement over it, it's taking money out of posties pockets so should be stopped

Your having a laugh. We do put a complaint in to the union and guess what nothing. Management just laughs in there face. Got to admit it we've got a weak union

If they had simply followed through the IR process they would have seen some changes

Managers doing OPG work probably happens in most, if not all RDCs, MCs and DOs

this has been happening for years in Glasgow MC....but also there are individuals doing managers work.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Has the rep actually put a formal disagreement in over it though? and then followed through on the IR process?

Manager in our office is always doing prepping & D2Ds etc ready for delivery.
No problems ever get sorted out properly and I ve seen dog attack complaints brushed under the carpet!
I wish I got paid £35000 for being a postie

i had a covering maanger who was doing opg work, he said he was helping the team, giving them a dig out. I said we don't work in teams and they don't need a dig out, but i'll tell you what you or maybe we can do. We can go and see your boss and tell them you don't have enough work to fill out your working day and he can find you something else to do. If there isn't enough white collar work for you then you might want to consider a but down of hours, the members and blue collar workers are not backfilling your working day with their work.
a colleague witnessed it and said why are you stopping him and i told him that managers will take any and all work to justify their day. You get paid to do this, on duty or SA, if your not doing it the business won't pay you not to do it so will eventually take the SA or time from the duty. Then asked him if he was interested in a buy down. Hopefully, i think, he got the message.

i wouild have happily gone to his manager for this chat with a letter outlining this and cc'd in my area rep, but didn't need to.
Believe it or not it really is this simple on the day you inform your area rep what you intend to do and email or send them coppies of the letters you will be issuing you turn up for work with 2 letters (one for the individual and 1 for their manager) you speak to the individual and hand them their letter at the same time this covers your demand (and it is a demand) to formally request they stop immediately performing opg work, and that if they can't or won't you may go above their head. if they dont go to their lino and hand over the second letter.
Operational needs is often thrown about and i'm no stick in the mud, i understand that there may be occassions that, operationally the exceptional challenges the businees cannot quickly respond to, however daily is not operationally nor is weekly or monthly or yearly.

yes not sure if he followed through on ir process though and it seems to be happening all over rm so maybe everyone is just turning a blind eye to it. hoping someday that they will just magically stop doing opg work.

easy way to tell if it was followed through or not is if a rule 13 ballot happened or not, as if it didn't then the rep has not followed the ir process and thus not actually bothered his backside challenging this, says a lot about the rep if he is not willing to fight for your staff and letting managers take money out of the pockets of posties

obviously not followed through then as no rule 13 ballot was requested and totally agree with the rest of your post.
