managers losing the plot??

Post by sonofron »

Hi all
Been off Monday and today with a chest infection. To be honest, I struggled through last Friday and Saturday to try to avoid the inevitable harassment.
Have had 3 phone calls today from 3 different managers piling on the pressure to get me back to work. 3 yes 3. Is this allowed? I am not going to bow to this and will return probably by the end of the week when I am fit for work.
Any other offices suffering this bullying and what are your thoughts?

Your Managers shouldn't be contacting you via the phone like this. I personally would consider it Harassment. :thumbdown

You can Self Certify for basically a week, I believe it's 5 days, and your Doctor's not likely to give you a "Fit Note" for that initial period anyway. Follow the correct procedure and you contact your Manager to keep him up to date about your illness.

Search the Union forum and I'm sure you'll find the correct guidance. Manager's are only meant to visit you if it's a long term sickness and then the "Visit" has to be agreed between you. If you keep getting hassle inform your Union Rep, if he doesn't do anything (or you think he's not likely to) contact the Union Area Rep. There's also the Bullying & Harassment helpline if they're really taking the piss. :hmmmm

This job's tough enough, don't go back to work until you're fully fit. It's false economy, from your Manager's point of view, if you're at work you may infect other staff (then they'll be off sick). Plus if you return early, and feel rough, you'll be off again and trip another absence on your attendance record!

It is what they are doing at ours too. arranging an appointment to go in and see them on what would be day two of sick. Then they say "oh well you made it here and look fit enough for light duties."

Just stay home and recover.
