DOOR TO DOOR

Post by dodgyinlaws »

Who is responsible for prepping door to door items, the delivery officer on that walk, or can other members of staff be instructed to prep another walks door to door. I fully prep a part timers walk including packets, aswell as prepping my own walk. Managers are now asking me to throw in door to doors on the part timers frame before i touch my own frame. Is the correct procedure to throw in my own walks addressed mail before i prep the part timers door to doors?

There is no "correct" procedure.
It would vary from office to office.
Work as instructed.

Spot on! :thumbup

While you are taking RMs money they can pretty much ask you to do what they like under their "reasonable request" policy which covers pretty much anything they want you to do.

But you don't have to work over so no need to go busting a gut to get it all done in time, just pace yourself and let them deal with what's leftover at the end of the day! :cuppa

check the pt member of staff walk's duty 318 it will detail exactly how much indoor work they should have and if it's less than 20 minutes then you will probably find you should be prepping the d2d, even prepping the d2d do you have time to complete your duty in your contracted hours?

This, except: it varies walk to walk never mind office to office.

In my office it is clear. door to doors are part of the workload and need to be prepped, hence the person who's job it is to prep, preps them. Sometimes that person has no time, gets put on another job etc, so the manager has to get someone else to do it, or they don't get done.

Maybe it's a regional thing. At every office I've been to round here the D2Ds are always the first thing to go into the empty frame at the start of the day. How else would anyone be able to see they're done? Our managers may be a bit useless but even they can glance at a few frames and see that all that day's are prepped.

If they're prepped last surely it's hard for anyone else to see if they were ever in the frame or not, if they're only actually in it for a few minutes?

In our office (which is a pretty small one with 22 walks) if your prepping a round, you put in your own d2d's first then on the round your prepping and as soon as IPS is finished you go back on your own frame. But as has been said the procedure does vary from office to office!

I had been claiming overtime before i was instructed to prep pt d2d, i am claiming even more so now. Part time walk is on another section in the office to my own walk, i am dealing with two line managers in effect. Line manager on pt section is happy if everything is thrown in, line manager on my walk not happy when i claim over.

Play them off against each other a la "Fistful of Dollars".

In our office the person who preps my mech/sequenced mail is responsible for prepping my d2ds. The time for doing this is built into their indoor workload and they do this instead of IPS. Would love a job like that :cuppa

We've been doing "Households" for long enough now that I'd have thought most posties would have sussed it? :hmmmm
It just needs a different state of mind to deal with them:

If you consider them a chore (which just gets in the way and "wastes" your time when you could be prepping Your Duty) then you're going to get wound up about them.

Instead realise that they're "Live Mail" and you get paid to prep them. They take time to prep which should be Royal Mail's Time not your own. Posties complain that we don't make as much money on them as we did with the old D2Ds. But if you take the £23.58 Delivery Supplement and then add say 40mins a day for prepping that's an extra 3.2 Hours pay @ £10.40 = £33.28 + £23.58 = 56.86 x 52 = £2956.72 a year! :Very Happy (yes I know we have holidays......if you're lucky)!

Now if you want to come in early and prep them, or prep them during your Meal Break then IMHO you're a fool. The "Paid Prepping Element" is over £1700. Can you honestly afford NOT to be paid for that work? :hmmmm

I am sick of hearing Posties making excuses about Working for Free :arrrghhh I like to get finished early, I like all my Households in the frame on a Monday, I need to get home and walk my dog, I find them quite relaxing! I don't give a shite about their excuses because I WILL NOT WORK FOR FREE! :cuppa

Have you never been in the situation on the last day of the week - you've chucked the last day's in and there is one day's quantity still left over? It has happened to me and having them being prepped first thing in the morning makes it usually quite easy to work out on what day they weren't done.

Ok so nothing comes of it, management-wise - but I remember who stitched me up and that has repercussions.

I should probably add that it's usually very chaotic management. There are often at least 4 different people doing the walk during the week, so you can't just blame the floater automatically - there isn't one!
