PLEASE READ !!! THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED IN OUR OFFICE TODAY
Before xmas the following is being implemented in our office weather we or the union like it or not
ALL REST DAY WORKING STOPPED
NEW REPICK ON WALKS, WHERE THE WALKS ARE 4HRS LONG (SOME CANT BE COMPLETED EVEN WITH A CAR) POSTIES WILL BE SUSPENDED IF THEY BRING BACK MAIL FOR ANY REASON.
has this has happened anywhere else?
you can see whats happening isolate each individual office, get everything pushed through then there wont be any need for a national agreement or a union,
in my oppinion the talks are being delayed so they can imploment this.
i've also heard that team working is going to be implomented and you will be required to cover peoples sick leave and holiday and the posties that do this at the moment will be made redundent, thats about 15-20 posties have just lost there jobs in my office when this goes through.

Cutting Off
NEW REPICK ON WALKS, WHERE THE WALKS ARE 4HRS LONG (SOME CANT BE COMPLETED EVEN WITH A CAR) POSTIES WILL BE SUSPENDED IF THEY BRING BACK MAIL FOR ANY REASON.
They would have trouble suspending anyone if they follow the cutting off procedure agreed with Royal Mail :
CUTTING OFF PROCEDURE
The National Agreement which relates to cutting off is the Conduct Code agreement Section 3. The extra detail in italics is the interpretation of how this procedure should be applied by your manager.
PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT
a) Where an employee feels that on completion of preparation he/she may experience difficulty in completing his/her delivery within the authorised time allotted, he/she should approach his/her manager as soon as possible before setting out on delivery. It will be for the manager to discuss any problem and advise the employee what particular action should be taken.
(In the 1st instance a point on the delivery should be agreed indicating what mail should be taken, this should include all live mail including mail sort, culling of mail sort should be the last resort.)
b) When an individual has requested assistance on delivery, but the manager feels that assistance is not required, this decision along with the advice given to the employee will be recorded and associated with the daily traffic volume records. The employee can have access to this record and may ask to see it prior to commencement of his/her delivery. In addition to recording the employee's request, the employee will be instructed to ring his/her local manager prior to a specified time or as soon as possible if full completion of delivery workload within the time allotted proves not to be possible.
AFTER COMMENCEMENT OF DELIVERY
If an individual is prevented from completing their delivery for any reason, it is essential that this is reported immediately either by returning to the office or by telephone, telephone costs will be refunded.
If they still prevail then go for a local rule 13 Ballot

Do not use cars.
Use the Matrix for bag weights, it starts off with 16kg for 1st bag and goes down to about 8kg for the final few bags.
Do not start before your time.
Before you go out and you think you'll be over your time, inform the manager you'll be over, he/she/clone should give you the option of being able to book pressure or work till you time. If you choose to work till your time, take out just enough to last you till your time.
Next day work out what time you need to pack up to complete your walk. Inform the manager you are only going to work till your time. Prioritise your mail, 1st Class, 2nd Class, Downstream access then M3 in that order. Cut off when you think its time to pack up to complete your walk in your duty time. Over the strike in my office, we adopted this rule because they would not give us pressure to clear the back log. In the end they had to pay us overtime because the backlog around our fittings was not going down but getting bigger.
Best of luck

lucky you ... our delivery spans are 4 /4 hrs - 5 hrs depending on the volumes of mail and this was negotiated by our former union rep and our former manager without the walks ever being testedtaxi4leighton wrote: THATS WHAT THEIR PAID FOR. ALSO 3 1/2 HOURS IS THE MAXIUM WALKSPAN.NOT THE MINIUM.![]()

and yes i tired to point this out to both of them and it was still steam rolled in as our union man wanted his money for agreeing to implement the duties, before anyone else in Ayrshire :lfo :cfo

We began new times last week for a six week trial. Today just six DAYS later the Manager tells everyone the shorter Saturday isn't working and from next week it will be an 8 hour day from 0630 - finishing time 1430. Match day gone. Reaction? A few moans.
The MC Driver arrived at 0500 with the mail and said they were having a re sign and the union man had suggested that rather than use seniority they should go on Earnings!
His theory being that if someone had earned a lot that year and had to pick another duty his earning capacity could be lessened - WTF.
If this is happening now - wtf is it going to be like on an office to office basis. Next you'll hear "we are going to re-organise on a best practice system" and every s**t system going will be lumped into the "norm".
I'm going to learn Polish and see what it's like working there!
