got to work friday at 715 and was changed onto a shift that should have started at 645
it was a round I've done once before, delivery only 3 years ago but not one I've ever prepped so was slower than my normal pace
lots of mis-sorts did not help

before tying up agreed with manager to leave 2 bags and bulk

whilst out delivering had a call saying my collection ( later that day on overtime ) had been cancelled and i they would be dropping off the 2 bags and bulk and i was to finish this on my own and explain to my work mate he would have to make his own way back to the office

and if i refused their would be 'reprocussions'

I'm on a 24 hour contract which at the time was split into 5 days ( 4 hrs 48 minutes )

i'd also requested over a week earlier if i could be placed on a stand alone round as i have a niggling ankle injury which can be in issue when working as part of a 2 man round and trying to keep up with them (had an op on it 4 years ago)

as a result i was actually forced to do an extra bag ( the one my mate left)

is this something i should just accept or should i speak to someone about this ?

We're you able to do this in your paid hours? ie your normal shift hours and collection hours?

my basic hours were 4h.48m so i had to sign overtime to make up the shift to 7h.30m with the shift finishing at 14:45

the collection would have been on overtime 3hours starting at 15:30

i was pretty much told, you have agreed to do overtime and we've cancelled your collection and now you are delivering the entire round

it was around 6pm when i finished

Is your collection scheduled attendance? If not what you do on overtime is your choice ultimately.

the collection was voluntary overtime

i'm not even sure where i stand on having to work more than the 4hrs 48 of my allocated shift

I'm on a 24 hour contract

next week for example I've been rostered 5 days on the same round where i'm expected to prep and deliver and book overtime to make up the day to the full hours of the round

I've been given rest day off tuesday and was later asked if i would like to work it as its uncovered

they obviously know as its tuesday i'll probably say yes

i've been told that rest days will be given as mondays or tuesdays as a priority from now on

as far as the overtime book showed, only my 3 hours overtime for the collection was listed

i had to point out i needed 2hr 42m overtime to bring me up to the scheduled finish time for the round (7h 30m)
this was written in and i signed for it

before leaving the office we had agreed with manager to leave 2 bags and bulk

i basically had a phone call telling me the mail we had left would be dropped off and i was to deliver it instead of doing the collection

when my mate left me at 14:30, i still had 2 1/2 bags left and all the bulk to deliver

had you agreed to do the 2hr42 overtime? is that the sort of thing you would normally do on a day to day basis?

i had a text the day before telling me i was on round 23 and i agreed

its the norm that if i am 4hrs 48m as part of my schuduled working day i will agree to work the full shift and sign for the difference , in this case 2h 42m making a total of 7h30m

on arrival for duty the round had been charged to one i had never prepped

as i've mentioned before we tied up we spoke to a manager and agreed we would leave 2 bags , all the bulk and complete what we took (this actually took us 20 mins over)

in that case, you had agreed to work all those hours, the duty content in those hours can be changed, it's in the duty 318 the term is as directed, if on a regular basis you found that you and you alone were getting the duty changed then you may have grounds for grievance but from the sounds of what you have put in the earlier posts then yes what management have done is allowed, if you don't want to work extra then don't agree to do it, changing your collection overtime and getting you to do more delivery instead is allowed, if you have a long term illness or injury then ask to get referred to oh assist and then if it's covered under equalities act you would get something in writing stating what you are fit to do and any adjustments that need to be made to your duty

Had a similar situation myself once. Technically because you've agreed to do the collection, you are not allowed to cut off, so can be forced to work over. What makes this situation even worse is that they've had to give you're collection to some-one else, so the overtime that you originally agreed to do has now become a forced extended delivery, which you would never have agreed to in the first place. Laughable really and can't be right surely.

you can't be forced to work over, overtime is completely voluntary, agreeing to work over then changing mind at last minute though is a grey area and could lead to a conduct charge

The grey area is managers using the fact that you've agreed to do a collection, so they can then extend you're delivery for three hours. I agree, it can be argued that because you've agreed voluntary for overtime technically the manager has done nothing wrong and you haven't technically been "forced". Doesn't make it right though.

Seems a mute point really as this happened. Can they do it again though.
One option may be to request collection only in the future if you don't feel up to more delivery work.
Can you be forced to work through, no.
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

As said, a bit of a grey area. If you decline to work over to complete your duty on any given day then your DOM could probably block your collection overtime.
However if your DOM asks you to do another walk, on overtime, after your own walk then you'd probably be within your rights to refuse and just go on to your collection overtime.
