Picking purchased annual leave weeks

Post by Wheres_Zorba »

When it comes to picking annual leave should purchased weeks be treated any differently to other weeks?

I am being told in our office that any 'purchased annual leave' weeks get left until the end before you can choose them in any gaps that remain in the sheet.
But on the form that you fill in to apply for additional leave it says that 'your basic holiday entitlement' will go up to 6 weeks?

So someone with 20yrs service can choose their full 6 weeks but someone with 10yrs service can only choose 4 weeks and then have to wait until the end before they can choose their remaining 2 purchased weeks. Is this not using seniority for holiday allocation?

I know that holiday allocation is down to local agreements and is probably done different in every single office, but is there any reason why a purchased week is different from a normal week?

guess it may vary office to office, basically everyone gets allocated their 4 weeks, 2 summer 2 winter.
then those who are entitled to or buy extra an extra week or 2 then select their further choices with the available dates left,
how this is selected i'm not sure, we have 5 blocks, 1st pick block to 5th pick no seniority, which can't be used.
personally i'd say those with 20 years and auto 6 weeks should be able to pick 3 summer,3 winter from the start of the procedure, loyalty and all

Our office works in a whole year system there is no summer and winter leave, it goes 2 weeks then 2 weeks then any remaining weeks(some have 5 or 6 depending on length of service or purchased or carried over) then remaining days

Thanks for the replies.

I would have thought that 6 weeks holiday was 6 weeks holiday whether it was purchased or gained through length of service.

In our office we all sign for 4 weeks initially then on the way back up the sheet we sign for our additional 5th or 6th week (only if it is gained through length of service).

Then after that you sign for any 5th or 6th purchased weeks (In any gaps that are left!). It just seems that the people who have purchased weeks are getting a raw deal.
