Manager is for moving me 2 different office for Xmas period

Hi I have recently been told that 2 people from our delivery office is being moved to another office for the 4 weeks running up to xmas and I am one of them! Now in our office we are short staffed and he said we will only be going if 5 others in the office agree to work their days off!

Now I find this unfair and I am looking to know from a union Rep if I am in my rights to refuse to go!

How long is the travel between your office the other one?

you can't refuse but there are other things you can do though that will make it a lot less palatable to move you

Just get the rep to put in a disagreement.
The status quo will hold and if you take it all the way to a stage 3 and a rule 13 ballot, xmas will be over anyway.
And they won't want to send you by executive action.

Check your contract. As far as I can remember it's in there somewhere that you may be asked to work at alternative offices on occasions. Pretty sure there is very little you can do about it. But you can insist they pick you up from your current office and must arrange for a lift back or pay for your travel. All additional travel time must be included in your normal working day too.

theres a big flaw in your advice there, the union has an agreement in place with royal mail to allow this to happen, would look kinda silly now the CWU rep putting in a disagreement over something that the CWU has already agreed to and been voted in nationally by the membership now wouldnt it?

Which national agreement, voted in by the members, states that some people from an understaffed office can be sent to another office if 5 people agree to work their day off?
If those 5 people want to work their day off why don't they go and work it in the other office?

If you do go for Christmas Pressure make it easy for yourself - start at you normal time + office (even if other office is nearer to your home). You will be new to duty at the other office plus Christmas mail, which means you wont get much done. Then back to normal office for normal home time. Oh - and dont use your own car to get there.

Which national agreement, voted in by the members, states that some people from an understaffed office can be sent to another office if 5 people agree to work their day off?
If those 5 people want to work their day off why don't they go and work it in the other office?

The agreement that allows for the use of staff in other offices is the pay and modernisation agreement, at no point in that agreement does it say what the staffing levels must be before this is allowed to happen

it's quite simple if office B can't get staff to work extra for whatever reason but office A nearby can and if office A can get a volunteer to work a day off to free someone up to go and work in office B then that is allowed to happen under the pay and mod agreement

as I said there are ways to make it unpalatable to move the op but it can happen though it should be volunteers and then reserves that get moved first
