Yep. Happened to me last week. Took my van keys back told me I had to take a Tranny out as an agency worker was coming with us. Slow as hell, I don't think they understand the pace we have to walk in order to complete in our time. 7.50 an hour they're being paid. Makes me laugh as 3 out of 4 told the managers they weren't going to work Saturday, the day most rounds are docketed due to no cover.....

I think it's going to be normal now, nothing to do with privatization - the reason is that new inductees via proper RM recruitment have a failure rate to last the first 6 months of anything up to 8/9. So their new logic is to take agency with the promise of a proper RM contract if they can hack being the scum of the earth like us reserves are.

I reckon it's cheaper to use a scattergun approach via agencies than for RM to keep sending people on induction days and interviewing them etc. only for them to leave as soon as they start floating and realizing what a terribly stressful job the reserve has.

P.S. Before these agency people arrived, we did take 4 RM contracts on. 3 left within the month.

Didn't do me any harm and I'm still here today. Although the pay aspect was abit unfair

Our DOM was moaning he had no staff and wasn't allowed agency workers - he was considering getting some in to get the jobs covered and then dodging the flack from his boss later.

Been happening for a year or so in our area, thrown into the job without training and they wonder why there's such a high turnover of staff.

What annoys me is the fact that the WPC's aren't training them up, it's just left to the guys they're partnered with.

There are some recently in our DO. We had 5 new rookies in the summer, and only one lovely lady still around and the rest quit. It seems to me they can't cope with rotating duty or monster size walks.

Nope, if you want to get into management you might as well go and be a manager, never going to work out well working with a colleague one day then having to retrain them the next because your manager says their performance isn't up to it

The agency worker who appeared at our do last week was sent out with no hi viz and he was wearing scruffy joggers and a black hoody, I'm amazed no one stopped him pushing the trolley up the road!!

It sounds like you're putting too much thought into the training that's done. If you're told how to train someone, that's the model you use. If a lino is getting silly about the trainee's performance, then that's what it is: his performance. As soon as it was put through at ours, it was grabbed at as money for old rope.
On a side note - would making someone on a singleton duty a WPC be classed as ironic?
