Reasonable notice

Post by smiffie74 »

Hi

I'm new on here so don't if this has been asked, but what does Royal Mail class as reasonable notice for a shift change, and does this include weekends?

Thanx

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

i would also like to know what royal mail class as reasonable notice of a shift change ie day sift to night shift. reserves in our office are told not to make any plans until they get a letter detailing the shift /duty for the next week, as shift/duty could change. but reserves don't get a letter until Saturday afternoon telling them to start work Sunday night shift. i don't think one days notice is reasonable.
are reserves not entitled to a personal life or to plan time with family?
are reserves not entitled to a work life balance?
????????????????

weekly resource meetings with your local rep should have this covered off at least 3 weeks in advance. Yes i understand things do change (sick leave ect.)but realisticaly this may only affect 1 or 2 members/reserves and this list of 1 or 2 could quite easily rotate so as to not affect the same people week in week out.

if weekly resource meetings with the local rep have this covered 3 weeks in advance the reserves don get to know 3 weeks in advance and are still told don't make any plans
until they get a letter. local rep has been asked about this matter and said it has always been done this way.
so it it that reserves don't have the same rights as others that are in a rota or fixed shift? do the reserves not pay the same union fee?
are reserves not entitled to know their shift pattern in advance to arrange child care, rest bite care?
most reserves are forced in to the reserve duty's due to resigns.
is it not a human right to a private and personal life?
is it to unreasonable to ask for 5-7 days notice?

Sounds like an episode of The Walking Dead.

doesn't matter how its always been done this is how it is to be done in the future, if your rep feels they are not up to the job it might be an idea to suggest they step aside and let someone who can do this do it. I'm sure your rep will no doubt sh*t themselves if they fear the next stop on the gravy train is their last. Yes i understand it's not easy, and it will take time but this is how resourcing should be done. A/L used to be allocated based on seniority, it isn't any more thereby defining that change can happen.
Resourcing will change, whether or not your rep continues to be involved in this is a job for your rep and the members to decide. Worst case scenario ask for a meeting of the members and demand the 3 week model. As this is a ntional agreement i cannot see an argument for not doing it, i cna imagine excuse for not doing it but no real argument.
As trade unionists we must strive to move all forward and bring imrpovements to all not just duty holders.
