hello can anyone advise if holiday entitlement increases with service and if so what would be the entitlement for 10 yrs service

ten years is the same has a new starter it increases at 15 years

Incorrect there is an extra day after 5 years

The holiday entitlement is:
On entry - Four and a half weeks.
After 5 years - Four weeks and 3.5 days.
After 15 years - Five weeks and 1 day.
after 20 years - Six weeks.

you don't lose a week you just use it differently

example : 30 days 5 day week 6 weeks

30 days 6 day week 5 weeks

same amount of hours jut used differently

Although you aren't losing a weeks holiday, you also aren't gaining 8 weeks extra leave - your just taking the days off differently.

you still get the exact same number of days annual leave, you don't get less annual leave

if you work 5 days a week you get 1 day off (as well as sunday)
if you work 6 days a week each week you get 1 day off (excluding sunday) those days off are added together to give you the 6th week off,
so if you take annual leave on one of those other weeks you are due to work 6 days so need to use 6 days annual leave as you have no day off that week as it's being banked for your week off

basically if you wanted it to work your way then if you took a week off and it only used 5 days leave then you would need to work a day from your rota off week to make up for it,

its also the same if you work 47 hrs a week for 5 and have the 6th off. You earned that week off by working the 6th day, and as ZX135 pointed out if you didn't use 6 days on your annual leave instead of 5 you would not have earned enough days off to cover the whole 6th week. Ergo you HAVE to work the unearned day on your rest week.

The other way of looking at it is that you don't use 6 days leave, you use 5 and then transfer 1 to the rostered week off,. In any case you are having the same amount of DAYS or HOURS as anyone else on your contract, just not the same number of weeks because of the system you work. If you based it on weeks you have 47 hours or 6 days more leave than a person working 39. Its hard to get your head round it but if you check the number of hours leave you are using you aren't losing out (39 x 6 = 234 hours leave) (47 x 5 = 235 hours) - so you are actually getting 1 more hours leave a year.

The union does get a lot of stick these days, but when I started we got 2 weeks and 4 days A/L on a six day week - no day off.
2 weeks in summer, the left overs in winter. Now I get 5 weeks A/L and 8 rest weeks .

replies have confused me, i work 40 hours , 5 day week, and have 10 years service, based on this info how many days am i entitled to
