Annual Leave... are we being short changed???
I have been looking through my annual leave and it appears that I'm being allocated days when they are not needed. I am on a 31.24 contract so my hours are done over 4 days, my entitlement is 22.5 days per year so this is in line with the statutory 5.6 weeks, however when I book a week they allocate 5 days (mon to fri) so my holiday only goes over 4 and a bit weeks???? surely this means that I am loosing a whole week over the year, has anyone else noticed this?, this also appears on my pick sheet where it states that I have to pick 4 weeks and 3 days.

On a 5 day week and when starting at Royal Mail the basic entitlement is 22.5 days (4.5 weeks x 5) so it looks as though they are using some kind of work around to make sure you get the right amount of holidays.
On a 4 day week 4.5 weeks holiday would be 18 days, plus of course the 8 days ph to take it over the minimum statutory levels.

Re: Annual Leave... are we being short changed???
I have been told that its because my working day is from 7am until 1.30/2, 5 days a week, however there is not 1 duty in the office that carries such working hours. If I want to work to my contract with no overtime I have to do a 4 day week. Using the governments holiday entitlement calculator it says that on my 4 days I am entitled to 22.5 days which is the equivalent of the statutory 5.6 weeks, however they are booking my holiday as 5 days per week which leaves me short by 1 week overall.

I'll try again.
Your contract is 4 days a week. Which your right means you should only use 4 days for each week off.
You should be getting 4.5 weeks @ 4 days per week = 18 days - then 2 more weeks for the 8 PH. Public Holidays can be included in the 5.6 weeks statutory minimum.
But you are getting 22.5 days leave PLUS the 8 days PH a year or what would be 7.6 weeks a year on a 4 day contract. To make sure that you are getting the right amount in weeks leave the are taking 5 days from a 5 day entitlement, instead of 4 days from a 4 day entitlement.
If they didn't and gave you 22.5 days plus the 8 days PH and you took 4 days off each time you would have 7.625 days a year. Thats more than a 20 year postie who gets 6 weeks plus 8 days PH. (7.5 weeks on a 5 day week).

Re: Annual Leave... are we being short changed???
Why don't we have a more uniform set of contracts, it clearly works in most cases in the companies favour to have the work force on umpteen different contracts and terms and conditions? Realistically the contracts are never worked to, most are under estimated and therefore docket is claimed. A lot of us are fed up of being on shorter hours on paper than we actually work, the justification of 'that is all the work there is' just doesn't add up. Contracts of 30 hours would be more realistic for starters, but I had to wait 6 years for mine from 20 hours. We don't seem to be fighting these battles.

It is all about greed and savings to save money on floating week, annual leave, sick pay, shares, profits, delivery supplement etc. Let say it do this in a normal delivery office of 120 people and that is about 30% of savings :(

Redneck......there is no justification for it. It pi$$es me off no end that i & thousands of other part timers up & down the country work full time hours & more & yet our contracts are never changed to reflect this just so the Royal Mail, who make how many millions in profit every year, can save a few quid when we are on annual leave. Its interesting that they are making so many evr's & trying to make full timers buy down there hours. Its obvious the company wants a 'flexible' part time work force with a minimal amount of full timers. I just wish RM would come out & say this is what they are doing. The agreement says RM will continue to have a predominantly full time workforce but this is clearly not the direction they are heading in. Its a shame our union CWU doesn't say or doing anything to make sure the agreements are been upheld

Re: Annual Leave... are we being short changed???
It's zero hr contracts. They want you to work 40 hrs but only give you 25, therefore 15 hrs zero contracts. Have you got lots of agency staff in your office yet, with RM paying the agency £13 hr yet the agency staff get less than £7. Why don't RM just make them posties for £9 hr? Because they'd have to pay them when they were sick or on holiday. A big scandal, are the union bothered? Seems not!zzzidane wrote:Redneck......there is no justification for it.
