Reserves and Long Weekends

Can any Union rep on here explain to me why reserves don't get long weekends off Guys 16 Years in the job and don't get them guys just in the door do get whit the feck is that all about..?

This is due to poor management use of resources. Ask your union rep to file a grievance against them for not getting your shares of long weekend.

I've been there 9 years and I've had 1 Saturday off this year and no long weekend. I have also told management and union reps about this multiple times and absolutely nothing gets done.why are we discriminated against when we all do the same job

The Union must take their fare share of the blame for letting this happen shocking signing up to an agreement that does not serve all it's members

And don't get me started about those full timers who get one in four Saturdays off and decide to work them, while us part timers have to work every Saturday.

Still waiting for a reply from union rep on this issue why the silence ?..Is it because they sold the reserves down the river on this issue ?

Get your Unit Rep to put the matter in the IR Framework if it involves all the leave reserves, otherwise each postie can put in an individual grievance .. the more single one's the manager has to deal with the greater the likelihood of a positive result as the matter can quickly go beyond his jurisdiction where he has no control over events.

Question though. How after 9 and 12 years in the job you are still reserves?? Have rounds not come up in that time which would give you 1 in 4 or 1 in 6 depending on how your office works? Have you chosen to remain reserves as you prefer to do different rounds daily instead of being stuck doing the same daily routine? If so maybe you have kind of given away your chance to Saturdays off?

When a duty becomes vacant instead of it going back on the board as 39 hrs and reserves who are full time and been in the job many years cant go for it and make it their own duty, the manager puts it on the board as a 30 hour and someone with a lot less seniority goes for it.

As a reserve that must suck. Why they cant keep it at 39 and give the reserve first refusal is beyond me. The postie with less hours and most likely been there for less time gets priority. That is were the union are letting people down.

If you don't have your own walk and you see rookie coming in the job and get their own walk it is annoying as you want them to do some years in reserve duty.

Just to answer as to why after 9 years I'm still a reserve.
1. The last repick was 5 years ago
2. Rounds that were full time are now part time
3. After our latest revision we had a vote for or against a repick and because most full timers didn't want to change rounds and the fact that some of those became 1 in 4 we did not get a repick
4. Our latest revision meant that nearly all cover dutys went part time 4 day weeks ( tue and wed off ).
5 despite voting against a repick the small amount of vacant dutys that have come up people more senior to us are still picking those rounds.
So as we now have long and shorts and if my day off is a Tuesday I work 1:40 hrs more than I should which is forced overtime. It could not be more of a joke 1 Saturday apart from leave this year and it's now October.

Number 2. Thats what im saying and what shouldnt be allowed to happen. Part time duties should be the reserve duties. Reason why not?? Because new people in the door need to be trained up on 4-5 different duties which costs time and money. Therefore reserves that have been in the job a long time get penalised.

Another question which bugs the s**t out of me. Saturday being a normal working day why does my manager and im sure a lot of other managers get every Saturday off? They should be put on a rotation like the rest of us. If your office runs a 1 in 6 policy or 1 in 4 policy or whatever they should be on the same??
