Our 2 managers in our office today told us to take any grievances to each other.
For example if person A comes in after their day off and finds the d2ds for the previous day were not done or they have another issue of some sort, they should then tell the person who covered the walk, not report it to the manager.
The reason the management gave was that, and these were the exact words "they are fed up of hearing people moaning".

I know it was only an example, but the thing to do with undelivered D2D is just leave them. Take all you're supposed to and give the rest to the manager at the end of the week, telling him you've taken all yours and he's welcome to check.sophie97 wrote:Our 2 managers in our office today told us to take any grievances to each other.

If you have time within your contracted hours, why would it be unreasonable to ask you to deliver the D2D that weren't delivered by your colleague?OnAFlyer wrote:

its not unreasonable to do that. But it is unreasonable not to deliver the D2Ds due that day you are on the duty. It also unreasonable for the Managers to abrogate their responsibilities, ADR needs calling in.motherhubbard wrote:If you have time within your contracted hours, why would it be unreasonable to ask you to deliver the D2D that weren't delivered by your colleague?OnAFlyer wrote:

Also it may be argued, though probably not accepted, that if you followed the Managers direction and alerted the person who covered the duty but didn't do the D2Ds, then you have complied fully with their instructions by:
1. Talking to the other person.
2. Not mentioning it to the managers.
Then you have done nothing wrong.
I am literally amazed that there are managers out there that seem incapable of evaluating the probable outcomes of their decisions on such minor and predictable matters. Because sure as eggs are eggs this will bite then on the ass at some point.

if its anything like our D/O they are too busy doing ips & prepping frames doing our jobs to worry about managerial tasks, then walking!TrueBlueTerrier wrote:motherhubbard wrote:OnAFlyer wrote:

guaranteed none to be seen at the "i won't complete today" time!
folk can't book holidays, refused full time but pestered "can you work your day off" & bags loads of overtime!
our ONION is totally oblivious to this, they are told but choose to ignore it, the cwu reps say to the golden boys/galls fill your boots.
they're repetitive in saying no overtime is tantamount to industrial action, which is a VERY BIG NO'NO.
whilst supportive of peoples needs to earn money, the reason why we work, most are already FT who do overtime, sorry but you should suit your lifestyle on your minimum income,
loada of p/t staff are refused the FT option, reduced holiday pay & (reduced delivery supplement unless they do overtime)

Re: You couldnt make it up
Totally agree with your statement Korky. It will however never change as Royal mail love having "Work Hungry" Part timers. They know these Posties need to do as much overtime as they can to make ends meet! I believe it's a totally immoral stand point for an employer to take....but what do you expect in these greedy exploitative times?
We have a few "Chosen Few" who regularly work 14 hours overtime a week!
Obviously they have easier duties as I find it bad enough working a normal week!
I mentioned several times that you could give a few more people a job, if you cut down all this excessive overtime. The DOM said, the way RM look at is they don't have to pay the extra Holiday & Sick Pay. He soon gets stressed though when any of his "Chosen Few" are on leave and he's got to find someone else to cover their 14 extra hours work!

Re: You couldnt make it up
I know it's veering a bit off topic but none of the part timers in our D.O. could be described as ''work hungry'' and are usually the least likely to do overtime and generally refuse it (which is fine)... I reckon the full timers are more willing to do overtime in our place.

Re: You couldnt make it up
Several of our Part Timers are the same. They took the Part Time job because it suited them and their Family responsibilities.
Those who asked for some extra hours are normally told tough shite! But then the Fun & Games start when things start to get busy...........Can you work your day off........ Can you do some extra hours........ Sorry we haven't got anyone to prep your walk, you'll have to do it. etc.
Suddenly the Part timers are in the same mess as the Full Timers getting harassed to do more work. Because it suits the DOM!
I admire the ones who do stick to their guns and say, "No I'm Part Time I only want Part Time hours thanks"!
