Attacked by same dog twice in one week (and bitten)

I've been attacked twice this week by the same large dog, the owner keeps it off lead and it is extremely aggressive. The latest incident the dog managed to bite me, it drew blood and I had to go get the wound cleaned + tetanus. The police are involved.

My DOM always sweeps incidents under the rug, whenever I report dog attacks or abusive customers he just says "oh well, be more careful". This time I want it logged so I'm going to email him a report of the incidents this week. Are there any protocols or procedures I can cite in order to force him to take this seriously?

Also, I do not want to do that duty any more, the owner is a scumbag, the dog is aggressive and always unleashed, now the police are involved I'm genuinely fearing for my safety. Where do I stand on refusing to do the duty? -I'm happy to float or do anther duty, or even do my duty but not that loop.

Call area safety rep just after you call the police for an update and make sure you have officers names and badge numbers.

Don't refuse the duty as you can get done for refusing a reasonable request but you can refuse to do anything which puts you in danger.

I.e that whole street.

Also there a dog attack claim form,me personally I'd call unionline and begin a case against the owner,they won't listen to police but might take notice when they lose money in a court case.

Take it ur health and safety rep and then area rep, tell dom to fill out Erica form, this should be done same day as accident

you can quite rightly refuse to deliver the whole street if its known to be left roaming, thought that's what they did as standard and those missing out on mail get told why and then they harass the moron with the dog until its safely behind a locked gate and even force them to put a box outside so no need to enter the garden at all.
we are continuously told that even a threat to our safety to endorse it a fetch it back.

The law. He has responsibility under various H&S acts, to mitigate the risks as far as possible for you while at work. That includes Dog Attacks. My advice would be to get the Area Safety Rep involved, copy him into the email, and I would seriously consider a grievance if you have proof of earlier incidents that he did not report or document. He will have also failed in his responsibility to complete ERICA or advise the ASR, and if anyone was off sick for more than 3 days RIDDOR.

If you can prove what you assert, then you have him over a barrel. If you don't have evidence or documentation then you can still proceed and get him educated in his responsibilities.

On every dog bite, or close call, the manager should make contact with the owners and if necessary suspend deliveries for either that address, or the whole street, and sometimes more, it all depends on the risk. Beyond the incident with the dog, the manager also has processes to follow when a postman reports aggressive behaviour from a customer.

This manager has failed on every single case and needs to be re-educated.

in our DO anything like that, the manager will go out and visit the home owner. We are always being told any risk from dogs then bring mail back, doesn't matter how much. Just endorse 'Dog loose' and report it when you get back. We've had houses and streets not get mail because of dogs.

Your DOM is being useless, as others have said get on to area H&S if you can't get help in the office.
