Lets do the sums.
Assuming your deal is something like this...........
"While no details have been released, the BBC understands that the 6.9% pay rise over 18 months will consist of a 5.4% pay rise between 1 October 2007 and 1 April 2008, followed by a 1.5% pay rise from 1 April 2008 to 1 April 2009. Workers will also receive a lump sum payment of £175". (From the BBC website).
So if you work this through keeping the maths simple. Lets assume basic is £10k. This means new basic will be £10540 from 1 Oct '07 (ie 5.4% increase) and £10698 from 1 Apr '08 (ie further 1.5% increase).
However, it may well be that you could get 6 months backpay and then 2.7% (ie half of 5.4%) until 1 Apr 2008. Although this means that the actual pay received up to then is exactly the same as above it does mean that when the 1.5% is applied it will be to a lower basic (ie £10k + 2.7% = £10270 + 1.5% = £10,424
I think the detail of what is on offer needs to be very clear when it is made public.

I accept this and it is very obvious from this forum. However, at some stage the deal will be acceptable (god knows when this will be) and you will need to look at the details of the pay. Maybe my post is a few weeks too soon!stephen500 wrote:I do not give two hoots about the pay, they can go back to the original 0% for all i care...ITS THE STRINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
