Post by sharktc »

Hello,

I Am currently signed off by my doctors Work related Stress after all the arguments and etc etc and constant headaches and sleepless nights i think I've had no another choice then to go to my doc and he advised me to get signed off for a while till this goes away... now my question is i got holiday booked for 3 weeks starting on the 21/9 this was booked ages ago before i could imagine that work would affect my health this much are we allowed to go on holiday while off sick??

Yes.
Had the same situation when off long term sick.
Spoke to my doctor who agreed it would be benificial for me to have a break away from it all.
Informed my manager and they counted it as I was on hol and not sick for 2 weeks.
Remained on the sick when I retuned from hol.

Yes you can.

As above, speak to your doctor, and if he says it will be beneficial to your recovery, ask them to write you a letter so you can inform your manager and provide them with a COPY of the letter (keep the original for your records).

However, you CAN NOT be on A/L and sick at the same time. Nor can a manager take you off S/L to put you on A/L and then return you to S/L. You will be on S/L ALL THE TIME, and you A/L should be reinstated to your leave card (PSP system) for you to take at a later time.

Get the Rep (and if necessary Area Rep) involved straight away, keep them in the loop.

If you have any issues with this, you can follow procedures such as Grievances, and also ask HR for their advice. They will assist. Note down date/time and who you spoke to, and take notes for future reference.
You can also ask, and may be anyway, to be referred to OHS Assist (was ATOS).

Don't let the bastards grind you down.

Toby Tyke, I would pursue this issue if I was you too. You were screwed.

Hope this helps.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.
