At first it may sound like a good idea, but after using it for a few days the flaws become obvious.
You can no longer keep a track of specials, and they get mixed in with all the other packets.
The packets are given a unique number, which makes them easier to find, but, you soon get gaps appear, and the only way to add more packets onto the end is to fill the gaps on the shelves, while keeping everything in order !
The actual system being used is poor, it logs you out half way through entering something, everything has to be entered correctly, or the callers office could spend ages looking in the wrong place.
Surcharges get mixed in with it as well.
Each packet has to be listed according to a wealth of parameters
Standard
Tracked
Recorded
Special pre 0900
special pre 1300
International signed for
international pkt
If it has a barcode you have to scan it, then decide

You also have to enter the customers surname, post code, and address, we find our system knows some post codes, but not all in the area.
Starting at 1pm when some are starting to arrive back, it can take until 7pm to get all the packets entered, and despite the note on the 739, people still come in the same day to see if their packet is in the office.
