just been reading some of the posts on lapsing, how can a manager tell you, to leave some of you own walk in, if you cannot complete, he has just told you by that action, that you have no time to lapse, isn't the only time you can lapse, is, if you have the time after you finish your walk, it would appear, that he/she has given you the perfect argument to refuse to lapse, isn't it?

It's up to the manager what you do. He can decide you do 1 duty or 2 duty, or prep 1 duty and deliver 2 duty, or even take mostly 1 duty and part of 2 duty.

Even where the USO is to be maintained the workloads (inclusive of lapsing) still need to be fair and manageable and capable of completion within normal working hours - unless agreement is reached in respect to overtime payments

but my whole point is, and I might have not put it across very well is, if you have to leave work in your own frame, then it is quite obvious, that you have no time to lapse, how does the manager explain this then???

It's a bad call but that's his problem, if his superiors come for a visit then he's got some explaining to do.

Why does he have to explain it? Trying to understand a managers thinking will send you to the loony bin. Just do what he asks, don't do overtime if you don't want it.

I used to try to understand, and even ask the manager why he would want to pay me overtime when he's paying full timers to sit at home. It's just what he wants to do, I don't understand his thinking but now I just don't care.

Maybe somebody will do the part you're leaving on o/t.

If your absorption covers part of shiit city but the part of your duty you have been told to leave is what is deemed as a nice area, then it will be easier to cover on o/t by the managers friends, runners or arse lickers. You know the ones in your office.

Certainly not right but this does go on. In my office at least.
