Dumb questions about stamps on letters/packets

Two dumb questions from a newbie about stamps on letters/packets:

1. Why do 'proper' stamps on bulky/irregular shaped parcels seem to escape being cancelled quite often - is it due to it having to be
done manually and they just slip through?

and this one from my daughter (she thinks that now I've been a postie for fewer days than
I've got fingers that I'm suddenly an expert!):

2. What would happen to a letter if you put the stamp on the top left hand corner not the right?

lol maybe if they employed some staff it would be cheaper rather than lose god knows how much through people re.using their stamps

Probably most MCs round the country have axed most if not all of their stamp cancelling staff

Nothing much, other than your letter would go into the reject stream along with the RTS's, Freepost, etc which are then manually checked/franked (delaying it further) and the sender is marked down as either yet another tw*t trying to be funny, or worse, some sort of Care in the Community special needs type of person...

With the introduction of security features on stamps (small ovals that are meant to prevent re-use) many mail centres now (it would seem) feel there is no need to cancel or obliterate postage stamps. This may save a bit of money on staffing in Mail Centres...but 'm thinking it must be a false economy as many walking posties still don't cancel stamps before delivery (usually as we don't have the time ) I make a concerted effort with the new hand stampers recently issued to us but often miss a few... and I can't constantly be cancelling stamps on loops my partner has prepped ? ? ?

I have been told that regular "e-bayers" no longer bother trying to remove uncancelled stamps from jiffy bags and boxes as a quality sticky label over the old name and address works just a treat Let's start cancelling all stamps ... revenue protection is a major issue... and we really must keep on top of things...

I still cancel stamps when I notice during prep, but I don't think many of my colleagues bother.

when i saw the video of the new stampers, how do they know how many 1000's of £'s are lost?
all guess work unlike our daily workload which 100% accurate

very significant when someone very close to me could be very upset by your so called off the cuff remark.also think it is a very crude remark to make then again we all treat comments differently wheter right or wrong.
