my rep told me this morning that informing the dom that at the tieing up stage of my delivery was to late and that I should have done this much earlier.it should have been done earlier so that my prep rate could have been checked. any views on this

Rubbish, tell your Rep he's talking through his arse.

You are supposed to inform a manager at the earliest opportunity that you will not be able to complete, and ask him for advice.

Our Dom tells us that 09:45 is unacceptable to be coming to them and informing that we will not complete. However the same Dom then phones someone up at 13:35 and tells them to stop what they are doing come back to the office and collect over an hour worth of Mail. Go back out and complete.

Ask him what I should do then, I walk in to a prepped frame. Should I ring my manager when I wake up and tell him?

The correct procedure is to inform him as soon as it becomes apparant to you that you can't complete there is no cut off time so it could be as soon as you start or even whilst on delivery half an hour before you finish,

In all honesty you cannot really tell how much time you will have to perform a delivery until you ready to go out. I myself have felt that ive had a heap of time only to find 2 full packet bags and multiple sign fors. Your rep is a bit of a numpty.

business policy is quite clear. Not my policy or your DOM's or rep's but business policy (i think its called the overrunning of deliveries), as soon as you become aware of a problem to complete delivery you make them aware either by phone or in person.

tell your rep to the voluntary position of a local CWU representative is to represent the members. I accept they may not be aware of the above policy so make them aware before you go nuclear.

I think the part about the phone call means if you left the office in plenty of time to complete but something happened on your walk to delay you such as;an accident,or as happened to one of our staff finding a dead body

I've been arguing to have a clear notice of the correct cutting off procedure up on the notice board for a while now.

There's nothing wrong with if the workload is there. It shouldn't be seen as something "naughty".

Instead our managers always assume it's performance, without properly testing or coaching. It's just used as a threat. We had one guy get suspended for bringing mail back after the office was deemed "clear" for "not cutting off properly". In reality it was used as a message. Everyone shut up and get done. Mafia style. They're basically enforcers. Ours never cleverly manage anything. They prefer the bully system. Much better system for the disadvantaged brain.

But the only agreed prep rate test they are allowed to do, as far as I'm aware, is a one minute test into an empty frame.

I don't think there is an agreed prep test on a duty frame at all since 2010. As it was acknoledged that there were too many discrepancies between frames ie: double slots extra wings. There is still an IPS test and a packet test.

If he'd followed procedure he would have been OK. Just follow the correct procedure, it is there for a reason and this suspension should not be taken as a 'message' because you can still work to your time so long as you inform your LM what is happening. Don't negotiate, just tell them the position and walk away - don't let them talk you into running round your delivery.

Thats what they try in our office,they praise the early starters and runners by saying thing's like,"Bert is number one,I could put him on any walk and he would do it","If I had an office full of Bert's there would be no problems",and like you say the people who want to cut off are made to appear lazy and inefficient,I think the managers must discuss tactics at their meeting's
