Dear Colleague

Use of Private Cars on Delivery By Managers

We have been made aware of advice that has been issued by Royal Mail which confirms that the insurance bond which is sometimes provided to CWU members who use their own cars on delivery is not applicable for managers who use their cars for such purposes, either during industrial action periods or at other times.

Therefore unless they have private business insurance to convey mail, they will be driving without insurance. We would suggest that if our members become aware of Managers operating in this way either while industrial action is taking place or otherwise, they should draw the attention of police to the likelihood that an offence is being committed so that they can take the necessary action to stop it.

My DOM wanted to take me out in his car the other day but i refused as i said he had no insurance.
He said that as he was previously a few weeks ago a cluster rerserve manager he HAD to have business insurance so it was ok.
As it happens a van turned up,but he did use his car to drop bags out today.
Any ideas on this,would he pay for his own insurance do you think or is he quoteing the above!

In our place thier more like Hawlee 50 with out the boats business insurance does not have conveience of mail and postal staff on it only covers you to run from office to office in the course of your job if your job requires you to attend meetings etc,so managers are not covered thats why RM have little postman prat vans.

How petty is that? We are probably at the crossroads of the future of the union membership and they throw out such a petty argument. How many postmen are going out without clearance and therefore uninsured - it would be better to be looking at taking RM to task over using a fleet of private vehicles at NO cost whatsoever!

had a meeting at watford this morning and they have excepted a deal you can follow the van in your car but no post in it BUT YOU ALL LOOSE HALF AN HOUR SA A DAY everyone put there hand up to except it apart from 6 off us that walked out thats it then you lost pay over strikes and you except a deal that makes you loose more pay shame on you all well worth doing it properly for the last 16 weeks never again

Its all well and good doing the job properlly, but obviously you don't need any extra time on your delivery, coz you posted this at 1.09. Some people were doing the job properlly, others were just taking the piss, what category do you fall into?

Do the job properly and use a bike. Simple. The Line Managers should do the same too........but that would be fun to see!!!
