Annual Leave

Post by paulk »

Does anybody have any idea what the Unions plans are for sorting out the backlog of annual leave, our office now has over 800 days of annual leave that we cannot fit into the leave plan.Talks with the DOM bring a response of RM have no idea how to solve this problem, this is fine, but this is both leave that is an entitlement or worse has been purchased. One postman who has purchased two weeks leave has been told that he won't get it, surely this is fraud as the money is deducted each week to pay for the job to be covered.

Call in Area Reps , regional Reps and HQ and if they don't help ask for an Industrial Action Ballot, or go nuclear and walk out unofficially.

Beyond that individuals could put in a grievance with a view to going to an tribunal. If people can't take the statutory leave (5.6 weeks (28 days) which can include BH) then the manager is breaking the LAW.

The problem is, and some managers rely on the confusion - even a new starter gets more leave entitlement at RM than the statutory minimum once BH are included. But even if entitled to 6 weeks annual leave (+ 8 BH) the majority of annual leave will still come under statutory minimum

Although you are entitled to annual leave by law, they can refuse a leave request for "operational requirements" it's a get out clause, we have loads of leave left to book in our office, and have been stopped booking it, with the agreement of the Area and Div Rep !

Most of us are planning to take March off, apparently the law states that you have to take the leave owed within the financial year !

Ive got a few days Im not allowed to take. My mates always ask me to go on holiday, not understanding that all our holiday was booked in april, they think its stupid that we have to plan that far ahead. One of my mate litterally goes online, signs in and chooses which days he wants off and then just plalces it like an order, which is always accepted. RM is so far behind in many areas, this is one

How does that work with seniority and the way we have to pick our weeks a year in advance of when we want them ?

Especially when the law says that you only have to give the same amount of notice as days you require ?

We are being asked to pick two weeks for next year, I still have 10 days outstanding from this year !
