Can i be sacked for being off sick for a month?
Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered before.
I'm currently on a stage 1 and have been off work for 4 wks due to having Labarynthitis, (its an inner ear condition that makes one dizzy and affects balance)
Doc has signed me off and I've given work the notes and kept them up to date with my condition, I've been un able to drive or walk too far (imagine the shaky camera when someone's walking in a horror movie) as its bloody horrible, almost feel drunk!
anyway.... Can I be considered for dismissal as I've had such a long time off? sick note ends on 26th Aug unless I go back to doc if not recovered.
Quite worried.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

No you cannot be dismissed as there is a attendance procedure in place..
You will probably get a stage 2 issued though.
See your union rep for a copy of the attendance procedure.

I had the exactly the same thing so know exactly how vertigo feels. The issue is when u do go back you will get a 2nd stage and as you know vertigo can happen any time so take as long as you need.

Yeah Will do.
I have another Dilema....
There's something I do out of work time, at weekends now and again which doesn't involve driving or walking about,
Would it be seen in bad taste by My Managers if I were to be out and about doing this whilst not being able work?

Potentially YES it would. I have infrequent vertigo and while I have it I can't even think about an hour ahead.DanDeLorean wrote:Yeah Will do.

How do you get by walking about and/or driving ?
In my time off I've not even attempted to drive, I've walked to the shops a few times and its awful, wouldn't manage to carry bags, push a trolley without bumping off walls or possibly ending up in the road.
Sitting or standing still is managable, Doc said eventually it will pass...

When I get it and it comes on quick. I can't even stand up, any movement of my head at all sends me sprawling or throwing up, it is worse when I wake up, i often crash into the bedroom wall when it comes on. Can't play the guitar.. Fat fingers.Daniel-san wrote:I'm just either standing or sitting playing guitar, i get driven to the place and just sit or stand still

So Could I get dismissed if I Played the show, even though I wouldn't be Driving or walking ?
The Doc signed me off work due to me not being able to complete my duties at work.
Obviously I'll cancel if I'm faced with dismissal.

think rm would class that as working [especially if your,e being paid to do the show] and as you say cant do your own job why should rm pay you for being off sick if you are getting other paid work.Daniel-san wrote:So Could I get dismissed if I Played the show, even though I wouldn't be Driving or walking ?

What you need to do is show that you are making every effort to get better although vertigo is a condition that gets better on its own, but am sure your gp has reffered you to ENT specialist? .
