annual leave
What is the union doing about the problem of not clearing the backlog of outstanding annual leave, our office now has 800 days that cannot be taken in this years leave. The DOM says it is a national problem so what is my national union doing about it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: annual leave
if you have 800 days that cannot be taken they must then by default all be full which i find improbable. Them beans don't add up.

Re: annual leave
in a big office 800 days is not that hard to accumulate if you are a bad manager and have an inattentive rep, not replace 3 leave reserves and then reduce leave slots by 3, gives you best part of 900 days in an office of 100 staff it would be easy to imagine stupid things like this happeningbogstandard wrote:if you have 800 days that cannot be taken they must then by default all be full which i find improbable. Re: annual leave
Isn't there supposed to be enough holiday weeks available at a depot so that every single OPG could book 6 weeks per financial year (excluding ~4 "Xmas pressure" weeks), through either long service and/or Purchase Of Annual Leave? So 50 OPGs would have 300 holiday weeks to use over 48 weeks (so ~6 OPGs on leave per week).
We are told only "x" number of FT and "y" number of PT can be off in one week.
Some OPGs at my depot are carrying over multiple complete weeks and have done for a few years, because they are unable to book extra leave. While the worst cases were improved before this annual leave year started, others are left with leave credits they can do nothing with.
Can OPGs demand they are paid for these accrued leave weeks they struggle to book off, above and beyond their basic 22.5 days plus bank hols (pro rata)?
For some very strange reason, leave is effectively chosen by seniority at our depot, which I believe goes against the national agreement. Annually, it alternates between picks starting with seniority and reverse-seniority, but when the long service OPGs get their first visit to the computer they get to book 3 weeks... Which among other issues, can and has left some POAL buyers with diabolical options eg. no leave for over 3 months and then three weeks in three months!
Under-staffing does not help, too many OPGs are relied upon to work their day week in week out, partly because some other OPGs have been "loaned out" to other local depots for well over 12 months.

Re: annual leave
clearly understaffed then, it woul be interesting to know how many there are that office, or roughly how many days each person cannot take in a/l.zx135 wrote:in a big office 800 days is not that hard to accumulate if you are a bad manager and have an inattentive rep, not replace 3 leave reserves and then reduce leave slots by 3, gives you best part of 900 days in an office of 100 staff it would be easy to imagine stupid things like this happeningbogstandard wrote:if you have 800 days that cannot be taken they must then by default all be full which i find improbable.
