Amalgamation of sorting offices ??

There is a rumour that Royal Mail want to amalgamate two or three sorting offices in our area to make one big super sorting office. Has there been any similar rumours around the country?

We've got a planner in our office at the moment who is seeing if it is viable to close it and move us to the cdo. RM seem determined to move us!

The other part of the rumour is that Royal Mail have already bought the land,and building will start shortly.

Already set up in Glasgow with a couple of "super sorting offices"
the one that serves my area is in the middle of nowhere with no
public transport links.Good job they bought all those vans a
couple of years ago.

4 offices in this city are now under one tatty roof , although we have had the new bogs and callers office,

We are moving to brand new office soon with 3 offices in 1! Not looking forward to it. We are the smallest office and do well regarding tracked deliveries etc but the other 2 are poor and have a bad rep so will b interesting to see what happens!!

One upside of this is that it increases your travelling time to and from your walk, which therefore has to be taken into account for how your day's work is structured, which therefore makes it harder for them to add more streets on to your duty

Each day I spend on average 30 to 50 minutes driving to the duty and back (15/25 minutes each way, depending on traffic). Ask yourself would you rather be sitting in a van listening to the radio, or do another 45 minutes worth of delivery up and down staircases.

a "super office" can only be so central, then after that you will have to travel further than you did previously for a start, a general 10 minutues of acceleration is outdated if it takes 20,30 or more. somethng's gotta give somewhere, delivery span? attendance times? sorting? 2 in a van?

They did that in Croydon the new Mega office is on factory lane.

The amalgamation of delivery units has been going on for years. This has allowed Royal Mail to sell of the real estate. In London postcode districts out of the 119 Delivery Offices 33 are now outside their delivery postcode and this will increase.

Royal Mail have confirmed that they are a footsie 100 company and the shareholders want to sweat the assets ie the real estate and have been reviewing all offices up and down the UK to identify quick wins in terms of moving an office into another Royal Mail office or moving a few offices to a leased building which allows Royal Mail to sell the estate.

The bean counters in the now privatised company and which will be fully privatised by April as disclosed in the Budget are intent on raising capital by selling the real estates in places where it desirable.

We now have in London 6 offices whose postcode are in W2, W8, W9 ,W10, W11 and W12 based in NW10 which is an hours drive away down the A40 one of the busiest roads in the UK. It takes the an hour to. Get to their delivery point and an hour to get back so two hours out of their duty each days is stem and therefore the relocation has made them less efficient but of course their old building was sold for over an 100 million and the other 5 offices generated another 100 million so this is the new thinking of Royal Mail sweat the assets expect a lot more of the amalgamation of offices in order to sell the real estate. This month I have been informed by senior management in London of 4 move new relocations.

Would staff be reimbursed for extra mileage in getting to their new place of work??


I mean if Royal Mail were to continue their aggressive policy of selling sorting offices and it meant an hour's drive to the nearest depot - How do staff and also customers benefit when they have to collect their parcels....

Oh yes I forgot!! Royal Mail have been on a crusade to push us to deliver to neighbours. I believe some depots even have deliver to neighbour cards. Quite how that time was built into the duties when they routinely added lapsing as well onto our frames remains a bit of a mystery to me

generally , yes but it will depend on other factors. its in the MTSF
