what is a "fact finding interview"

Hi there, not had one of these before, can someone shed some light on what to expect?

A Fact finding interview is where you will be taken to an office by a Line Manager and asked about the incedent, or what ever has taken place in view to see if they will at a later date issue you with a stage warning/conduct.
Be sure to ask a CWU Rep or another member of staff to go with you.

Yeah I have been trying to get hold of a union rep all afternoon but he doesn't pick up the phone.

Its regarding a minor accident, no other party was involved but I just don't think my manager believes what I'm telling him, we've already had 2 or 3 conversations about it and they have been exactly the same.

Just make sure you take a witness in with you, record the conversation on your phone if you can so fact can be heard by rep at another time/when available, you'll probably have to tell manager you're recording it though.

It's basically where you keep your mouth closed. Not because you have anything to hide, it just helps to stop them putting words in your mouth.

In my experience its where they try to trick you into condemning yourself so they can make up a charge not necessarily directly concerned with the original incident.
Get your rep to go in with you and say as little as possible.

Cheers guys, I'm not too worried about it just didn't really know what it was all about. I don't have anything to hide I've already had the same conversation at least 2 occasions with him i don't really know what else he is expecting me to say. still haven't got hold of my rep so will postpone it till i get hold

Just be aware that he may try to trick you into coming into his/her office for a 'quick chat' without letting you know that it is indeed the fact finding interview in question. They tried that with me
