more hours contract

hi all
Im currently on a 23 hour contract and noticed there have been jobs advertised for 30 hours per week.

I have asked for my contract to be changed to 30 hours ,
but dom said he's not sure as he already advertised the job.

Where do i stand on this? i have worked there for 3 years , shouldnt it be given to current staff before new starters?

I always thought promote from within. You could apply for the job and by right get it, then your 23hr contract could be offered out

we have had 3 part timers made up to full time in the last yeah due to being left with too few Full time positions when the person has left.
if your Dom was decent he would have sorted out those in his office who would like more hours first before advertising for new staff.

Do you have any other DO's nearby?

If it doesn't put you out to move I'd keep an eye on any vacancies there and ask for a transfer and see how they like replacing someone with 3 years experience with a new start IF they don't give you the 30 hour contract.

The 30 hour job should go up for signing in your office first and then the most senior person who wants it should get it, this is covered in the way forward agreement, it shouldn't have been advertised externally, your dom can stop the recruitment process and get it filled internally, if he won't then get the union to lodge a stage 1 disagreement over it

Your dom should offer it to the next senior postman on less than 30 hours then advertise the 23 hour contract externally

Should have advertised the posts internally for all to apply for, the person who's been there longest gets it.
