my gaffa gets people in for a 5am start so most of the IPS is done before the other full-timers come in at 6am, then we lapse 3 duties but i can't have a full-time job cos theres none going

How many people at your office:

[*]Run round their walks
[*]Don't take their proper breaks
[*]Come in early before their proper start time
[*]etc, etc

If there are many them people are the reason why you've got no chance of a full-time job. Why would any DOM make people upto full-time when he's got people doing the above

I have tried to raise the issue of people coming in before their time and prepping with Management so many times. Not only is it counter productive for the actual workforce, it is a HUGE hole in the security of the mail. To have an employee handling mail unsupervised in isolation from anyone else is a serious compromise. They could help themselves to anything.

I don't see the point of that post. All employees are diligently CRB checked first nowadays. Why would an early-starting PT employee be more likely to nick anything? Check the C*urier, and you'll see the majority of crooked posties turned rogue are long-timers and thus nearly all FT. Back on topic, we had a thick brown letter for every house Thursday for the new electoral roll procedures. Great! we all said, no lapsing. Oh no. Tannoy call comes out telling you to lapse and only take letters where you are going with other mail, like a door-door until they've gone.

Because posties are still being charged, and found guilty of theft even having sucessfully passed the CRB check which started around 2006

So whilst the perception may be its always long serving FT employees, its actually not always the case. My own perception is that the common theme is dishonesty and/or an inability to do the job. I think though that RM need to improve how they deal with people who struggle with the workload, that would nip some of these cases in the bud.

I do have the higest regard for my workmates, they are my friends and my main concern. We have have had however one theif in the office within my time. We now have so many Workmates under so much pressure that they feel the need to come in early, cut corners to complete their duty. I see them pleading with managers every day to no avail. These good peple are at risk because we do not support each other. Anyone, prepping early is under pressure and it needs to be addressed by management.

Slightly off the topic,but Ive heard that to cover sick in some offices,staff are now being told to take first class only on one row of their own duty and take a row of the other duty.It seems the company is looking to limit overtime.Cant see that working unless people come in early and run round.

During the recent ADR briefings the subject of ‘Streaming or Skimming’ of mail was raised by a number of reps and subsequently raised by me at the NDG. Royal Mail’s response was that they were unaware of it and it was only anecdotal, they needed firmer ‘evidence’. Therefore could reps please supply the dept via email with any instances where this has occurred or is occurring, naming the office and the manager of the office and how frequently this has occurred, and how the streaming actually occurs. In some cases the decision of what not to deliver has been left to OPGs which in itself is unacceptable. In other instances it forms part of absorption/lapsing where an OPG is taken off a delivery to allow others to absorb the delivery by only delivering the 1c and leaving everything else in the frame.



Your urgent attention and response to this request would be greatly appreciated.

So the people that don't usually go on IPS, there's no benefit for them, do they have to lapse?
