I wonder if anybody can help me. Friend of mine was expecting a Special Delivery about 2 weeks ago. She tried to track it via the usual system. All it says is please come back later. Information on your Special Delivery item is unavailable. She lives in flats where all mail is left in a commmunal area so she doesn't know if a card was left and maybe its got lost. Could there be a delay in the system with this info? I said its unlikely its delayed in the system and maybe wasn't scanned in at all. She has checked with the office too but though don't seem to be helping very much. Fobbing her off with the come back later that the tracking system is saying.

so what would the "come back later" thing be about? seems an awful long time to wait.

The please come back later status is usually is one that shows up when a bulk sender informs Royal mai that something is due to be sent under that tracking number.

It may be missed being scanned at 1 office, but not through the whole system. I therefore think the logical answer is that it was never sent and never enetered RMs system, but thats a guess.

Can she go back to the sender and check with them.

thanks. i did say to her that if it was scanned in at the DO prior to being handed to the posty it would show on the tracking? i assume this is correct?

Yes, thats at least one of the scans for Special Deliveries, along with many others at the Mail Centres as it goes through them.

also she did contact the sender but they just told her to check back later as thats what RM said on their system.

Is she sure it's not just a recorded signed for? You'll be surprised how many get that confused. That message usually flags up for signed for. Special delivery will have a trail usually.

Sounds to me like it hasn't been sent at all then.If it had the office would have had a call from customer services by now after a customer complaint. Sounds like she's been fobbed off.

Ask your friend to try the tracking number at http://www.royalmail.com/trackdetails" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; it gives more details and if the item has been sent, then there should be some entries there
