no lables on sequenced trays
this has been going on for over a month in our office. the sequenced trays come in (both waves) without any lables on them. meaning the porter has to flick through the mail to i.d. the duty its going to, and when the porter is off they normally put someone on who doesn't know the sorting. its farcical. gaffer says its nationwide.......(is it?)..anyways he says the new online printer is acting up, and they don't know how to contact the new owners who happen to be an indian firm (not red Indians) to get it fixed.....what a load of ballcocks....more likely costcutting....anywhere else had this?

Re: no lables on sequenced trays
Sometimes we get sequenced trays un-sequenced!! Havent had trays with no labels on for a while, the excuse usually is no ink in the printer....

We get called when it comes in at 7 and 8 am

Re: no lables on sequenced trays
Probably there has been more mail to sequence then your local MC or MPU has the capacity to sequence. If it's the second wave then there's generally a max capacity of 10 trays per batch in order to get time sensitive batches done and off to DOsfranco77 wrote:Sometimes we get sequenced trays un-sequenced!!

There's never any ink in the printer as it's a thermal printer
Most likely the local MC or MPU doesn't have anyone available to print the labels

Re: no lables on sequenced trays
you don't have porters?.....they put the sequenced trays out to the relevant duties, and clear down the manual sorted mail from the primary for the double preppers, so keeping them ''fed'' with mail till its all prepped in. thought all offices that have had a revision have porters. its part of the new ways of working.eastie wrote:sometimes get the mech marked up wrong into wrong walks

Re: no lables on sequenced trays
No. We hand write the duty number on a blank label when our printer isn't working.daveyeff wrote: gaffer says its nationwide.......(is it?
On rare occasions we have had to send a sequenced batch out with no labels, but this is usually down to someone making a mistake when boxing up, and it is better to send the batch with no labels as opposed to sending it with wrong labels.
Again, human error. Especially if it doesn't happen every day.eastie wrote:sometimes get the mech marked up wrong into wrong walks

No labels on either wave here too.

We had our revision 4 years ago and we get our own trays.
Plus what is a double prepper , is that someone who goes up to the 1st and 2nd 30 minutes IPS call up?

Re: no lables on sequenced trays
Every day is chaos, today I threw in the first two trays of sequenced on 3 walks, 2nd wave and manual on 3 walks and packets, redirects and bundled up 2. What are we supposed to do? The screws won't tell you so they can make it up as they go along. Dom is taking more hours out soon.

Re: no lables on sequenced trays
Some days no labels, other days the mech marked up wrong with the next walks, e.g. walk 23 as 24, 24 as 25 etc.

Re: no lables on sequenced trays
We rarely have fully sequenced mail anymore and the second batch isn't even partly sequenced - is just a mech bundle. Makes you wonder why they even bothered buying the machines to be honest.

Re: no lables on sequenced trays
It's not currently happening at my DO, but there was a period around 4 or 5 months ago when the computer/printer was basically out of commission for 3 or 4 weeks. It wasn't necessarily broken but the thing was operating so slow from page to page with a massive delay in printing making getting the labels take 10x as long as it should. Printing the labels is part of the CSS operators "other work" break from the machines, at least at my DO anyway as I occasionally work on CSS on OT & if the printer isn't working during the time they're due to print the labels, then they just don't get done as there's no other time during night the operators get to do them.
In reality it shouldn't be an issue as all the trays, at least during our waves, are always sequenced. So it's just a case of whomever is handing out your trays just looking at one of the letters in the tray. The person handing them out should needless to say know all the walks in the division.
