yes and no - bereavement leave is normally immediate.

Time off for funeral is a different specific special leave and is usually for one day.

I have this situation my mum had a brief illness and she died on the 22nd July and I had two days with her before she passed,I have been on leave from the 10th so the first week and a half was holiday. From this time on I have been doing the many things an only child needs to do I go back to work on the 10th August and I think I have grounds for compassionate leave for say the following week due to the funeral being on the 11th of August have I a case?

probably not for the whole week, but certainly on the day of the funeral. Check the special leave stuff in downloads.

Although a decent manager probably would give you more than 1 day anyway, more especially if travel is involved. Pre-empt the situation and talk to your manager they may surprise you.

hate to advise anyone to go sick mate but in these circumstances I definitely would you need time to grieve. after all we only ever will have one mum. afaik rm will not give you a stage for this period of absence don't think there is any agreements just common sense should do.
