YOUR ABSENCE FROM WORK

Hi guys need a bit of advice if anyone knows? My partner works for Royal Mail last week he had been up all night very ill, anyway as it was my day off and I told him he cannot go to work like that it was either a ambulance or I was going to drive him to hospital for treatment, anyway the upshot is I rang the DOM as soon as he came in to the office at 6 am told him I was getting my partner to hospital and would contact him and let him know as soon as possible. When I got out of the hospital after my partner was treated there was a letter in the post from RM on the floor from the DOM.

YOUR ABSENCE FROM WORK. He never once gave my partner a chance to phone back and explain the reason why he was in hospital and for him to say he would be in the next day after been treated. I find this disgusting he could have died that morning and me to pick a letter up like this saying "Maintain contact with the office" "You need a cover note" "Let me know at the earliest opportunity when you can return to work" I phoned in at 6 am and the DOM had that letter printed off and in our address in the frame at 9am. Is this not harassment?

It's part of their procedure to send out day 1 absence letters no matter what the reason. May sometimes due to the nature of the absence come across as insensitive but it's part of their absence procedure and it's not going to stop I'm afraid.

Is he ok by the way?

I phoned in one morning and received the same letter an hour later :lol:

Had the same here, went home early before delivery (dizziness, I should never have gone into work in the first place....). Saw an Your Absence From Work letter through he letter box a couple of hours later). Seems to be standard procedure. Perhaps to "encourage" people from staying off sick?

It's so they can pressure you into going back to work although they will claim they are just checking to make sure you're ok

it's a way of bulking out their days work by claiming they were busy doing other things like this.

I was at work one morning, got to about 10am and really felt ill. Puking and the runs, turned out to be norovirus. Anyway i walked into the office and told the manager i was signing off sick because how i was feeling.

In the time it took me to go to my locker to get my things, he had printed off the letter and went to hand it to me as i walked to my car. Told him to stick it where the sun don't shine.

How ungrateful you could of at least thanked him for giving you something to wipe your bottom with

It's to make you aware of the procedures. A lot of people think they can just go off sick and turn up one day when they feel like it. You have to maintain contact, and the letter is basically a backup incase you don't do what is expected of you, so they can stop your pay etc etc

Spot on, they pay full sick pay so they have every right to expect a few things in return and to lay down a few conditions attached to this sick pay or they have every right to stop it.
