Do we now have to take 2 PDAs on collections

Was told by manger this morning that i had to take 2 PDAs on collections in case of a failure and that it was Royal Mail policy that i had to do this...he fold up by saying if there was a failure on collections and he asked me "The question did i take 2 PDAs out on collections with me and i said no he would take me down conduct code"......is this rally Royal Mail policy or is it just the manger making things up trying to bully and intimidate me into do what he wants.

So it is right then...thank you for the reply...still would like to see the paper work on the policy tho...our office is struggling with the PDAs we have now without people having to take 2 out..hopefully Royal Mail will supple the equipment to do the job

I've never heard of this and done loads of collections in the region (East). Is this a local thing or national? If the PDA fails it all gets an ad hoc here.

We only have one PDA for every person so how the hell can you take two??

I think it's more of a contingency if the entire PDA fails, not just the comms. Which could happen if you dropped it and the screen smashed etc.

No u do not take out 2, take a note of route header before u leave office in case it comes off PDA and u can still enter it into PDA where ur at the box

I am still finding it hard to believe its not just the manger making it up to cover his ass and pass the buck if there is a problem or failure....PDAs are falling frequently to send coms...which he is well aware of...

Where are you supposed to store this extra PDA? I thought in the PDA manual it stated it must be secured into the cradle before driving off..

Maybe put the spare one in the glove box in case you need it. To be honest it's a simple thing to take a spare PDA out on collection in case you drop and smash the first one. The only time it won't help is if you lose it out on collection because you would still be logged into it and would not be able to log into the second one with your own login details. Having said that if you work in a CDV pairing you probably know your partners login details by now so you could use his login details as a one off.
