North Berwick delivery office's improvements lead to high score in Employee Survey

https://www.myroyalmail.com/sites/default/files/styles/full/public/images/news/MRM-Northberwickdeliveryoffice.jpg?itok=010qte5zA delivery office in Scotland saw its engagement score jump 23 points in this year’s Employee Survey.

North Berwick delivery office’s score shot up from 48 to 71 thanks to improved communication and regular one-to-ones between team members and delivery office manager Jayson King.

Jayson introduced these initiatives after the score only rose by one point last year.

He said: ‘People felt there was no point filling in the survey because they thought nothing would change, so I wanted to show them I was serious about making improvements.’

Jayson based his action plan on feedback from the whole team and worked with his union rep to agree the schedule for lapsing in advance. He also met each team member individually and, as well as giving them a review of their work, he asked them for feedback on his own performance.

Jayson said: ‘I think listening to what people had to say and giving them the chance to give me feedback was a big contributing factor to the score.’

‘Before these changes were made we were lapsing to capacity but now I agree the schedule with the union rep every week, and morale in the office is much better.’

Postman and CWU representative Kevin Blackie, said the ones to ones and better communication improved the engagement score.

He said: ‘Telling people exactly why they need to do things has made a difference to morale and holding regular ones to ones gives everyone the chance to speak to Jayson directly.’

Action plan deadline

All teams should now be developing their action plans based on the employee survey results. Managers should upload plans to the online reporting tool Archway by Friday 31 July.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I don't understand how you can have a schedule for lapsing, some days this week, we have completed all the lapsing, some days this week we have cut off and not done any lapsing. Who knows what will happen tomorrow, we are due lapsing but the last two saturday's we have cut off. Maybe there was some intimidation in these one to ones with staff talking about their work.

Propaganda exercise on what looks like a very small office

It must be if their DOM has the chance to speak to everyone in the office.

Now our frames have got lapsing built onto it; it means a lot of us are routinely trying to get some taken off everyday. Our lino must have been smoking meth when he added the lapsing bits on our frame because for months we were struggling to get it delivered without working way over our time on some days!!

Then again he was under pressure from the DOM and he did have his bonus to consider at the time......

Now we have not only cut back on full-timers who left the business - and replaced them with bag-carriers - so that we are doing more indoor work. We are also doing more outdoor work on deliveries as well. Its a complete shambles.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Why don't you all start cutting-off every day? if you all do it, the DOM will get the hint

Because not everyone works to their time! Bonkers really when you consider that we already have longs and shorts installed

Its the ones that rush round finishing early that spoil it for everyone else.... and you can't tell them otherwise
