Reduced hours and holidays
Hi, I now work 28 hours over four days instead of 33 hours over five days and my holidays have been reduced from 23.5 to 19.5, is this correct? (The government site says I am entitled to 22.5)
Thank you for any advice given.

Re: Reduced hours and holidays
your a/l is pro rata, so assuming you're a RM employee this will still equate to 23.5 days or 4 weeks 3 days.
if this is not the case get your rep if you have one involved, if your not in the union you can do it yourself.

19.5 is four weeks and 3.5 days nearly 5 weeks in your circumstance you use 4 days for a week offPaxton wrote:Hi, I now work 28 hours over four days instead of 33 hours over five days and my holidays have been reduced from 23.5 to 19.5, is this correct? Re: Reduced hours and holidays
annual leave is worked out in hours now not days
depends on what hours you work per day ( whether they are the same every day or different)
so work out how many hours you should get and divide that by how many of your working days this equates to

Indeed he is.
As he says when you are on holiday you NOW use 4 days = Previously you used 5 days.
Therefore 1 weeks leave is now 4 days from your entitlement (or 28 hours instead of 33)
If you had stayed at 23.5 days then at 4 days per week you would have got 0.5 days short of 6 weeks, without paying POAL I presume. So you would have got more leave in weeks than nearly everyone in your office.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Bank holiday to be added pro rata for 4 day week = 8 x 4/5ths = 6.4 DaysPaxton wrote:Thank you all for your replies. I thought it best to check, you know what the buggers are like
Your 28 hour week has to take account pro- rata of 4 instead of 5 day week.
I THINK it would be calculated thus;
Annual Leave 4 wks 3.5 days = 23.5 days minus 4/5ths of 23.5 = 18.8 days (edited error in hours calculation) Should have been 18.8 days = 131.6 hours.
Plus the bank holiday which goes toward the statutory 28 days A/L everyone is entitled to (pro-rata)

The right to holidays
A worker’s minimum entitlement to paid holiday under the 1996 Regulations is 5.6 weeks a year (28
days for full-time staff).
• This entitlement includes all bank/public holidays. Employers who offer their workers 20 days’
holiday plus eight bank holidays meet the increased statutory minimum holiday entitlement.
• The right to holiday starts from the first day of employment.
Part-time workers are entitled to a minimum 5.6 weeks’ annual leave, calculated pro rata (eg the
days they work x 5.6: someone who works 3 days a week will therefore be entitled to 16.8 days
(3 x 5.6 = 16.8).
So 4 days = 22.4 days

Re: Reduced hours and holidays
Paxton is entitled to get pro-rata holiday as stated plus pro rata Bank Holiday based on a four day week (28 hours - I assume 7 hours per day). My contract says i am entitled to 22.5 days annual leave plus 8 B/H = 30.5 total p.a. (pro-rata). The 28 day statutory minimum includes bank holidays.arnold cheshire wrote:paxton is getting 19.5 days plus bank holidays
My 5 day week = 30.5 days = 6.1 weeks (6.1 x 5 = 30.5 )
