DOM changing attendance times/schedule
The DOM has sent out a letter to everyone saying that our attendance times are changing. We have always had a flat week but he wants to put in longer and shorter days to run with traffic. This is going to cause problems for some people and childcare, etc. a) how much notice do they have to give and b) is he allowed to this atall?

He is, it is called Longs and Shorts and is part of the Pay & Modernisation Agreement 2007 I Believe. However you should be entitled to at least 2 weeks notice and the times agreed by union rep in consultation with you and the DOM.

It's 28 days,it sounds like Executive Action,where the f**k is the rep?
Have you ever had any meetings about it?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If you are unhappy with the proposed changes get onto your rep and get him to put a stage 1 disagreement in about it, and to also insist on the status quo until resolved.
In short he can try and change it but you can still fight it through the ir process

Had a similar thing in our DO, rep stepped in and sorted it.

Re: DOM changing attendance times/schedule
It will probably go ahead because a delivery office makes a saving in hours as they shave a few hours off Monday and Tuesday and put them on Wednesday onwards. The idea being that you don't get a flyer on a Monday or a Tuesday.
Ours got changed ages ago....all agreed with the Area Union Rep...yeah, whats his name?? Never saw him, its wasn't open for discussion, all done in the blink of a week. There it is right in front of you on a board as you walk in the office.
Typical Royal Mail making their own changes when they want, where they want and we just had to lump it. We didn't even get a chance to discuss it. All this rubbish about it being agreed with the workforce and work/time balance you read about in the courier....yeah right.
Most of us had childcare issues so I think that is why we don't finish any later than 3pm. I think that is the only way that it could have worked. If it didn't I suspect a few of us would have put in grievances.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

If your day off falls on a "short" day, are you entitled to overtime?

If you work over your time, with authority, you are allowed to claim overtime, doesn't matter if its a long short or normal day.swpostie wrote:If your day off falls on a "short" day, are you entitled to overtime?

If your day off falls on (for example) a 7 hour day then your actual contracted working hours will be 39 hours and 48 minutes (if you're full time).
Therefore you should be paid 48 minutes overtime automatically.
Shouldn't you?

Depends if the office is organised or not - mine has work plans that take into account when your day off is, whatever day it is.swpostie wrote:If your day off falls on (for example) a 7 hour day then your actual contracted working hours will be 39 hours and 48 minutes (if you're full time).
