My wife has to do jury duty in a few weeks. And due to the school holidays my two children will be at home. As i do not have anyone to look after them i asked for time off. But dom would not listen and just said no. Is there anything i can do.

depending on laws you come under there are various rules reference claiming back extra child minding costs - I would research your particular location. There are different laws for England with Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland so make sure you research the right ones.

You cannot refuse jury service but you can defer it once. Explain to them your childcare issues and could she do it in school holidays?

Cheers for the replies got it sorted. Union rep had a word for me by the end of my shift i had got the time off.

Because Jury service is an individual requirement that takes no account, during selction, of your own personal circumstances. The Jury Central Summoning Bureau (JCSB) randomly choose your name from the electoral register of everyone eligible for jury service.
