Letter to my Tory MP and his reply

Having sent the postcard provided by CWU I got no response. I then emailed him and thought some of you may find the following of interest:

Dear Charles Walker,
I am very disappointed you have not put your name to the following:

I am a postal worker with 14 years service and am disgusted with the
way the Royal Mail management are treating it`s employees.
The dispute is not so much about pay, it`s about pensions and
'flexibility'. As my MP I would like you to look into it if you have
not done so and put your name to the above or explain why you will not.

I wrote to you months ago regarding this dispute and received no reply,
very disappointing as this was my only ever correspondence with an MP.

Dear Sir,

Firstly, my office has no record of receiving any prior correspondence from you on this matter. Did you e-mail it or post it? If you e-mailed it - please resend - if you posted it then you, as a postal worker, must know that somewhat more than 1% of mail never arrives at its destination. Given that I receive approximately 10,000 letters a year this means 100 get "lost in the system". With this in mind, I would be grateful if you could cut me a little slack!

In answer to your question re the EDM tabled by Labour MPs- I will not be signing it. The Conservative Party has fought for the past 10 years to stop the closure of sub-Post Offices and the running down of postal services. As we were doing this many of the people who have now signed the EDM sat and jeered at our efforts from the sidelines. Therefore, their sudden conversion to your cause cuts no ice with me. Where have they been for the past decade?

Finally, I realised the Post Office and Royal Mail's senior management couldn't cut it when I visited the Waltham Cross sorting office last Christmas. I was looking around for the normal tins of sweets (Quality Streets) and couldn't see any. When I asked what had happened to them I was told that due to "budgetary considerations" they were not to be purchased for staff. Given that your CEO had just received a £1 million bonus I thought this was mean-spirited and churlish and demonstrated a lack of leadership and empathy for his workforce.

In conclusion, I have great sympathy for your position and this is heightened by the arrogance of the people leading your company.

I thought a fair response and I disagree that he would have any probs making it public as it is written to a constituent and the MP knows only too well that it can be given to the media by the striking postie.

He certainly has a point about the destruction of the Post Office Network - just about every Labour MP kept silent on this unless it affected their constituency and even then it was only mouth music and going through the motions - which they are very good at lol.

I sent the CWU card to my MP and recieved a copy of a letter from Crozier outlining RM's business plan.
She said "I hope this letter makes Royal Mail's position clearer for you" STUPID COW !!

Is that a good reason for not signing it then?

You don't usually get MPs supporting EDMs put forward by an MP from another party.
