Punted onto another duty without being asked

Hi all.

Right, my office had a revision and re-sign back in March. I was made up to 39 hours from 30 hours temporarily for 2 years (covering for a guy who is away on union work for 2 years and was given my own duty (HCT duty). Anyway on Monday i was on my own duty all week on the rota and when i checked it today i have been moved to a shared van duty, i questioned the DOM about this and was advised that he swapped me with the floater as he needs to get finished quick to go to a funeral later that day.
My question is should i have been asked or informed of this change rather than me finding out via the change on the rota? Or can the DOM do this without informing me first?

How would you feel if you was the one needing to finish quick to goto a funeral, in this case I have to say get over it

As far as it goes in this day and age, anyone can be moved onto any duty regardless of who has signed for what or how long.

No no i am quite happy to help the guy out. I guess my gripe is it would just have been decent to have been informed when it happened.

It would have been the courteous thing to do, but remember you work for royal mail, DOMs are generally a!$$holes.

Things like this happen all the time at my office. DOM very rarely keeps duty holders on their rounds and will swap people without asking

I've been working in my present office for about 4 months and up until today all on the same duty. Came in today and they were lapsing mine and flung on to another walk, enjoyed the change.

Think you've got to look at things over a period of a year or so, do they constantly mess you around or do we all accept we are flexible in unforseen circumstances when a colleague has things like funerals?

I think what's come out of this is the said HTC duty needs some more work put on it.
