Reserves having a seperate rota sheet?

In our office we have a rota for which dutys/day off people are on for the following week.So as a reserve i see i am on a duty that has a friday off.However,a note above the rota says all reserves must check the "reserve sheet" as the day off may be different! So they are basically changing the day off you should be on.Is this acceptable?

Is it acceptable? It depends on the office, the strength of the Union/unity of office and overall composition of the office.

Resourcing to workload has thrown everything in the air, and the folks bearing the brunt of it, are Reserves!

We do not even get out list until Saturday, and by Monday, some of the duties might have changed; by the end of the week, it might not be surprising to be on duties here and there. The days off rarely ever change once it is set; except for those that want to swap with colleagues and the very accommodating, gullibles and flexibles (usually part timers) that will do anything for the managers.

In relation to the original question, as a Reserve, the manager can set your day off as he/she wishes; it does not necessarily have to follow the duty you might be covering for most of the week. The situation is so bad now that a reserve can find himself on 5 different walks in a week; without being a floater. Also if he was covering for someone on holiday or long-term sick - he can be moved from a Saturday off (to allow a walkholder extra saturdays) to the typical Tuesday off, that most reserves get.

As long as the walkholders are happy and the usual suspect keep their privileges - why not?

not sure of your shift patterns but ours are a shorter mon/tue
its not a problem for a duty holder with a rotating day off, they will average their 34/39 hours over a six week period
but what if a reserve was given 6 tuesdays off on the trot? probably average 35/40 but only paid 34/39

We do 1 week off in 6 at our DO and every opg has a rota week that doesn't change unless you pick a new duty that has a different rota week to yours, reserves are treated the same if they are rota week 2 for example then that is that. I don't understand or like the way some DOMs seem to think they can mess people about from week to week, perhaps reps should be contacting their area reps or even div reps to get these problems sorted out.

Over the course of the year, we Reserves (in my office) get a disproportionate amount of Tuesday off and end up working more hours than the duty holders.

I am currently covering for a postie on a 2 weeks holiday - so ends up with a Tuesday off and then a Wednesday but the manager can tell me at the end of the week that I am covering someone else - and might end up with another Tuesday off or another day off on a multitude of duties...

i mentioned this to a few LR's at ours,
it stinks, but they didn't seem to grasp what i was saying, if you were unlucky enough to get say 5 out of 6 tuesdays off and didn't question in, you are effectively giving rm £50+ of free labour, why this hasn't been picked up on i don't know?
they all moan about been given every BH monday and cannot book days off later, i told them to either request another day off that same week, or if not possible, book a days overtime, if only to cock the budget up for the week, not 1 did.

In our office reserves work 7 hour 48 min per day thus equalling 39 hour weeks, but their start times differ from staff on longs and shorts.
Longs and short staff are on a 8 hour 30 W,Th,F the reserve would start 42 mins later than them but finish at the same time, also if the longs and shorts staff work 7 hours 30 mins M,Sa the reserves would start 18 mins before them and still finish at the same time as them.
The duty rotas are dsplayed 2 weeks in advance and the day off is honoured unless the reserve agrees to change, but the duty they do could change, also we display when a reserve has had a Saturday as their day off, so they we ensure they get an average of 1 in 6 (our office has 1 in 6 option).
