Accomodating VR

Post by paulf0203 »

Can anyone advise me what the criteria is for allowing a postie VR ie can the Manager take out a walk and spread it amongst the rest of us to allow someone to go on VR?

Yes because redundancy is when the business doesn't need someone anymore , it would be illegal to replace someone once a redundancy has been issued , so the office would have to absorb the walk.

Van man not quite true. There have been plenty of revisions which allow for a full timer to leave on a VR and for a part timer to come into cover the walking aspect of the full timers duty.

I'm I right in thinking as it is VR the work and duty is still there? Redundant is no work to do.

In delivery redundancy issues are a little more flexibilie.

Most Full timers (not all) will prep and deliver their round just as 30 Hour partimers do. But the extras they do such as IPS, Double prep, packet prep etc make the FT job unique for Redundacy rules.

Therefore they can in theory make a FT redundant, absorb the extras and employ someone new on a 30 hour contract or less.

The problem with making a 30 hour duty redundnant is that ALL the indoor prep would have to absorbed to make it a viable option with a 25 hour or less contract replacing them.

So its easier to make a FT redudant, but they don't have to do it, and when they do its normally when a revision is due.

So the answer is yes they can, the problem would be why would the manager want to, there has to be a legimate reason, not just because the FT wants to go.

When the DOMs trying to get rid of duties it becomes even more important for Posties to be booking ALL THE HOURS THEY WORK! We have that perennial problem of Posties not taking Meal Relief, not Claiming for small amounts of pressure or lapsing etc. :arrrghhh All this does is give the DOM the impression that there's savings to be made. Why these idiots do not look further than the end of their noses is beyond me! :arrrghhh Keep coming back half an hour early and you're going to get work added to your duty.....Then they turn around and moan because they've got more work and can't do it in the time!!FFS :mad
