A spare- Can you refuse to work somewhere?

Hi im a spare at the moment.

For quite awhile i worked in my own office which was great. Unfortuantly we now have a new manager who seems to move me to different areas fairly often.
Though they are in different areas sometimes the post is actually sorted in the same mail centre. So travelling there isnt a problem but still would like to work in my own office as i know the walks.

Just wondering can you refuse to work in different areas, or is this nessecary as part of a spare?
Another thing that is annoying me is i ve noticed a couple of other spares where i work are not moved around so much. In fact one of them seems to be on the same walk all the time now. Where as im moved around.

The best way to stop getting moved is to make it less palatable for them to move you.

Refuse to use your own vehicle to get to the other offices. You don't need to give a reason. Your dom must either provide you with a van or get someone to run you to the other office and back

Also you insist on starting finishing at your own office at your normal start and finish times and then travel to the other office within your duty time. This will reduce the amount of time you can actually work in the other office

Putting these both together and sticking to your guns will most likely result in someone else being moved

As for point blank refusing that is more difficult to justify, far better to fight smart rather than hard

^ he summed it up well, don't refuse but be awkward. They might lie and say you have to travel or use your car but you don't, you're entitled to sign in at your office then expect them to arrange transport and leave the office you'll be working at early to allow for transfer back to your office for your finish time.

However like i said i work in a massive mail centre, which covers many areas.

So im not really travelling to other offices as such. Still working from the same mail centre.
but of course im still doing walks i dont know.

Maybe cutting maybe a good idea. Keep bringing work back and theyd stop moving me perhaps.

if you are the only one being moved then that is harassment lodge a grievance asap, get your rep to set up a matrix to move people on a fair basis.

I 100% agree with what you're saying. It's fair. But unfortunately that's not real.

I have never understood this policy of moving people out to other offices.

At the moment our office is taking in posties from three other offices, at the same time we are sending out posties to help out in other offices

It beggars belief and defies all logic !

The other thing I cannot understand in our office is lapsing, we all have to do it, but because some of say we don't have time to do it, they take parts of our walk off us and give it to a spare to do, that person has to travel all over the town and rural areas. surely it would be a better use of man power if he did the lapsed walk ?

Again RM management defying logic.
